Jon Jones takes humorous approach to suspension with crying Michael Jordan profile picture

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones did not get the exact result that was hoping for in his arbitration hearing for his Anti-Doping Policy violation sanction.

In October, Jones was the first UFC fighter to go to arbitration over the sanction of his U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation that stemmed from an out-of-competition sample collected on June 16. Upon hearing the case, the three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions all came to the conclusion that Jones be suspended from competition for the maximum penalty of his particular case, which was one year. The term started back on July 6, where Jones began his period of ineligibility while things were sorted out in his “full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”

Jones tested positive for clomiphene and letrozole, which “are both Specified Substances in the class of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators and are prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.” Jones explained that the positive test was the result of taking a sexual performance pill that was contaminated with the banned substances, which USADA tested and confirmed to be true.

However, the arbitration panel deemed Jones at fault for not doing enough research on the pill before ingesting it. Jones did state a sense of relief that the arbitration panel acknowledged that he was never intentionally trying to cheat.

“I am pleased that in USADA’s investigation they determined I was ‘not a cheater of the sport,’” Jones said in a statement to ESPN.

Now that it is all said and done and Jones will have to wait on the sidelines to compete again, the former champ has taken an opportunity to take a humorous approach and poke a bit of fun at himself in the entire situation.

Jones changed his twitter profile picture to an edited version of himself with the UFC belt with the infamous crying face of Michael Jordan.
