Jon Jones vows to defeat Francis Ngannou before MMA career is over, ‘The Predator’ responds: “You’re f*cking fat!”
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is confident that he will one day meet PFL star Francis Ngannou.
‘Bones’ appeared at PFL vs. Bellator over the weekend in Saudi Arabia. However, Jon Jones was there seemingly in a ceremonial role, as he was still healing from a torn pec. The heavyweight champion suffered the injury preparing for a fight with Stipe Miocic last fall and is expected to be out of action for most of this year.
As fans likely recall, Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic, Ciryl Gane, or even Tom Aspinall, wasn’t supposed to be the fight. At the start of last year, ‘Bones’ was expected to meet Francis Ngannou. The heavyweight famously parted ways with the UFC in late January, to sign a deal with the PFL. The deal was done partially so Ngannou could also focus on a career in boxing.
Despite the fact that the two are in different companies, there have been teases that they could potentially fight. PFL’s Donn Davis has continually called for a cross-promoted card with the UFC, featuring Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou. Unsurprisingly, Dana White has shot the idea down whenever asked about it.
However, Jon Jones believes that the fight will happen one day. Speaking on the PFL vs. Bellator broadcast on Saturday, ‘Bones’ was asked about Francis Ngannou. There, Jones stated that he was confident that he could defeat ‘The Predator’, as well as Stipe Miocic and Tom Aspinall.
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones discusses potential fight against Francis Ngannou
“I feel like there’s a lot of fights that the world wants right now,” Jon Jones stated at PFL vs. Bellator over the weekend. “There’s the Tom Aspinall fight that’s really massive. There’s Francis Ngannou and I, that would be really massive. Stipe, to the hardcore fans, that’s still a respectable opponent.”
He continued, “I don’t know where the cards are going to fall. But my prediction is that I will beat Stipe Miocic. My prediction is that I will defeat Tom Aspinall and Francis Ngannou. So, the way that it unfolds is really none of my business. My job is just to do what I’ve done since day one, [fight].”
Francis Ngannou was in attendance at PFL vs. Bellator as well. He was shown briefly on the broadcast during Jon Jones’ comments and shouted: “In your dreams. You’re f*cking fat!”
While Jon Jones is currently out of action due to injury, Francis Ngannou is set to return next month. On March 8th in Saudi Arabia, the PFL heavyweight will look to defeat Anthony Joshua in his second boxing match.
What do you make of these comments from the heavyweights? Do you believe Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou will ever happen in the UFC?
