Jon Jones charged with battery for strip club incident

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been hit with a battery charge for an alleged incident that happened at a strip club in April. The report is according to local New Mexico news station KRQE News 13. Jones’ representatives said their client did not know about the charge until KRQE told them about it. Jones’ representative James Hallinan provided the following statement:

Add UFC president Dana White to the list of people who are intrigued by a future dream matchup between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Since April, a back-and-forth — through the media and online — between Jones and Adesanya has been ongoing. With all of the words spouted off by both champions, White was asked by TMZ Sports if he would be interested in the potential showdown. Thiago Santos had the biggest fight of his MMA carer this past Saturday against Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 239. Thought he officially lost a split decision, he gained the respect of the entire MMA community for not only giving Jones a tough fight, but for fighting 25 minutes with two severely-damaged knees. Although Santos will be out until mid-2020 after having knee surgery, he told Combate that he isn’t giving up hope of eventually fighting Jones for a second time.

In the second bout of the main card, former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold made his debut in the division opposite Jan Blachowicz. Then, in the main event, divisional champion Jon Jones attempted to defend his title opposite Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Santos. International Fight Week has come and gone and with it was a stacked UFC 239 card. The card was headlined by Jon Jones looking to defend his light heavyweight title against Thiago Santos. In the co-main event, Amanda Nunes was looking to defend her bantamweight title against Holly Holm. And, in a pivotal welterweight bout, Jorge Masvidal fought Ben Askren. Jones ended up edging out a split-decision win over Santos while Nunes TKO’d Holm in the first round and Masvidal knocked out Askren in five seconds.
