Michael Bisping Thinks Jon Jones Should be Banned from MMA if Found Guilty Again

Justin Golightly - September 12, 2017

After many twists and turns, the Jon Jones saga still is far from ending. After a positive urine test blew up MMA Twitter, a separate blood test came back clean. As we await the test results of the B sample and maybe even a court case following the results, speculation as well as hope for exoneration runs rampant. A laundry list of consequences face Jon Jones if he is proven guilty of his anti-doping violation, but UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping thinks Jones should receive the harshest possible punishment imaginable. “I think it’s fair to say that he has definitely tarnished his legacy. I think he will always be remembered from the stunning performances he’s put on. […] Yes, outside of the Octagon he’s made some very bad decisions and unfortunately this is one that isn’t go away for a long time. I think he’s looking at a four-year suspension and it’s fair to say there’s no smoke without fire. This isn’t his first time. I guess we’re going to see how this thing unfolds, but it’s not looking good.”

OSP Wants to Know if Jon Jones Was on PEDs When They Fought

Justin Golightly - September 8, 2017

Ovince Saint Preux is about to gear up and fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua  in Japan, but there is another fight still in the back of his mind. Back at UFC 197, Saint Preux jumped in to replace Daniel Cormier and fought Jon Jones for an interim UFC light heavyweight title. Losing the bout and suffering a broken arm in the process, OSP took the loss hard but moved on. However, the recent controversy over Jon Jones’ drug test has all of the feelings rushing back. Was Jones’ allegedly on performance enhancing drugs during their fight as well? Saint Preux wants to know the answers. “I mean, I did an article a while back saying, I just wanted [Jon Jones] to tell the truth. But at the end of the day, with me, I just wanted to know. But at the end of the day, what can I do about it? It’s a situation where I’ve learned, especially like my fight when I fought Volkan. You know, I walked in the locker room and I caught myself screaming, and I was like, why am I mad for? I mean, I did everything I did, I poured my heart out in the fight, you know, I trained hard, I felt like I won the fight.”

PED Expert Believes Jon Jones' Failed Drug Test 'Doesn't Make Sense'

Justin Golightly - September 8, 2017

Back before 2008, Angel Heredia was supplying performance enhancing drugs to make sure that the athletes who were on top of their sports, stay on top. We’re talking even Olympic-level athletes. He was eventually forced to cooperate in court by becoming a chief witness for the U.S. Justice Department. All this to say, Heredia knows this enhancement game in-and-out. Now, he has joined Jon Jones’ defense team as a legal adviser and spoke to Submission Radio on why he thinks his testing procedure doesn’t add up from an expert’s perspective. “If somebody takes a designer [steroid] and they pretty much identify any of it’s metabolites, they would pretty much know what steps to follow next, and eventually they will break it down and they will come out with the name of the structure that was not identifiable at the time. So, at this point there’s nothing like that. Pretty much, they’re accusing [Jon Jones] of one particular metabolite. They’re not accusing him of six different metabolites. One single metabolite. And that metabolite is the one that stays up to seven weeks. So frankly, to me, it’s backwards. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Chael Sonnen comments on his own experience with banned substances and Jon Jones' situation

Russell Ess - September 4, 2017

Ever since Chael Sonnen failed two drug tests in 2014, “The American Gangster” has been rather open about his use of banned substances. The former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger has previously said that he has taken “everything in the world that you can’t take.” Now, with his former opponent Jon Jones facing his second incident being flagged by USADA, Sonnen questioned Jones’ history of banned substance use on a recent episode of The MMA Hour.

BREAKING | Jon Jones Passed His Blood Test Right After UFC 214

Justin Golightly - September 1, 2017

It seems like there is a new development in the Jon Jones saga every single day. After allegedly popping for a steroid, we’ve been on an emotional roller coaster that started at heartbroken and is now twisting into the strange and unusual. His own teammate came out very early on claiming this had to be a set-up. Just last night, the California State Athletic Commission Executive Director even said he was confused by the test and it didn’t make any sense. With this new information just reported by Ariel Helwani, it makes even less sense. Jon Jones passed his blood test right after UFC 214, according to multiple sources. This was 24 hours after the positive test. More coming.

CSAC Executive Director Says Jon Jones Test 'Doesn't Make Sense'

Justin Golightly - August 31, 2017

The Jon Jones news exploded right in the middle of Conor McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather and still hasn’t slowed down. The UFC light heavyweight champion allegedly tested positive for the steroid Turinabol. While he waits for the results of his B sample, everyone you can think of has weighed in on the controversy. Dana White went on record saying Jon Jones was too talented to use performance enhancing drugs. His manager also continues to stand by his side.  A new voice added to the fray today is Andy Foster. He’s the California State Athletic Commission Executive Director and he spoke to MMA Junkie about why he’s confused about the Jones situation. “This entire situation doesn’t make any sense to me. It just doesn’t. If you’re doing a steroid panel, then [Turbinol] is going to show up every time. The fact that it didn’t show up on [July 6 and 7] when he was tested before, that’s an indication that he was not on that drug at that time.”

Demetrious Johnson reacts to Jon Jones' recent troubles, discusses pound-for-pound standings

Tom Taylor - August 31, 2017

For a long time, UFC flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson was the king of the pound-for-pound list. Then Jon Jones, the former pound-for-pound king, returned to action, knocked out Daniel Cormier to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight title, and stole the top spot back. Unfortunately, Jones once again found himself in boiling hot water when news broke that he’d failed a drug test on the eve of his UFC 214 battle with Cormier. In the wake of this news, his status as pound-for-pound king was once again called into question.

Joe Rogan: Jon Jones is the number one f**kup of all time

Tom Taylor - August 30, 2017

Earlier this month, the combat sports world was rocked by the news that Jon Jones had failed a drug test administered on the eve of his UFC 214 battle with Daniel Cormier. As the latest in an unfortunately long string of drug-related incidents, this failure called into question Jones’ status as the UFC’s new light heavyweight champion, and his legacy one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. On a recent edition of The Joe Rogan Experience, long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan weighed in on what this test means for Jones’ legacy. He wasn’t exactly gentle.

Daniel Cormier is Sad That He and Jon Jones May Never Fight Again

Justin Golightly - August 29, 2017

The fallout of Jon Jones continues. It was just last week that the GOAT candidate allegedly tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol. Since then, media, managers, and UFC fighters alike have weighed in on the results of Jones’ testing and we’re still in the dark as to what will be the final call. Daniel Cormier appeared on The MMA Hour yesterday to open up more about how he feels. When Jon Jones was absent from competition the first time, Cormier faced a ton of backlash labeling him as the “paper champ” simply because he never beat Jon Jones. Now, those feelings rush back as a maximum four year suspension could be handed down to Jones.

Jon Jones takes to social media for the first time since being flagged by USADA

Chris Taylor - August 27, 2017

Current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones made headlines earlier this week when it was announced that he had been flagged by USADA for a potential anti-doping violation. The test in question was taken the day of the UFC 214 weigh ins (July 28). The next day, Jon Jones would go on to defeat Daniel Cormier via third-round knockout thus claiming the UFC’s coveted light heavyweight title.

Demetrious Johnson Gives Insight on Jon Jones and Drug Tests

Justin Golightly - August 24, 2017

Everyone has weighed-in on Jon Jones and the results of his drug test: Dana White, Daniel Cormier, Anthony Johnson, and hoards of others on the internet. The opinions have been just as diverse as the current (and still) UFC light heavyweight champion’s combat arsenal. His manager has gone on record supporting his client’s innocence and even went so far as to say it may be a set-up. What makes Demetrious Johnson’s two cents different, is that he details how he himself avoids “tainted supplements” or popping unexpectedly. “It’s unfortunate you know. its very hard to fail a drug test. I don’t take any supplements. I don’t take any ibuprofen, Tylenol, I don’t take nothing. I just got swimmer’s ear. The first thing I did was text the UFC’s doctor, I call Jeff Novinsky, I say ‘I got swmmer’s ear, I need to get antibiotics,’ because you never know what will show up for the tests.”

Big John: Daniel Cormier Didn't Realize He Fought Jon Jones After KO

Justin Golightly - August 24, 2017

Old wounds can become new again when something catastrophic happens. UFC 214 came and went and we all moved on from Daniel Cormier’s defeat and his emotional interview that Joe Rogan later regretted. It might be hard to tell Cormier, but it isn’t bad being the second best light heavyweight in the world and top 10 pound-for-pound. We lifted Jon Jones back up as the UFC champ and the GOAT candidate. However, now that Jones allegedly popped for steroids, all those feelings come rushing back. Big John McCarthy recently revealed that Daniel Cormier didn’t realize he even fought Jones in a recent comprehensive interview for RT Sport. “He looked at me and he never even realized the fight started. He is sitting on the stool, he’s been knocked out and he is saying, ‘John what are they doing with my belt, we haven’t even fought yet. Why are they giving it to him?’ This is what occurs, this is the reality of fighting. And in the situation with Daniel Cormier, Dan doesn’t remember any of that. His brain doesn’t observe that information and put it in the memory because he got concussed. And this is part of our sport, and people need to understand what’s going on with it.”

Dana White Says Jon Jones is Too Talented For Steroids

Justin Golightly - August 24, 2017

Dealing with Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather boxing each other the same week that Jon Jones allegedly popped for steroids (Hey, he still has his day in court), is like trying to juggle water. If it’s hard for normal folks and MMA media, you can imagine how hard it is for Dana White. Sure, he’s not perfect and we all get pissed off at him more than on occasion, but he’s going through a hard time right now. White joined Shannon Sharpe on Undisputed to talk about the Jon Jones situation and actually dish out some praise. “It’s crazy, but the thing that’s sad is when you start saying, ‘should we question everything that Jon [Jones] has ever done?’ He’s the best to ever do it. He didn’t need those drugs. But guess what, guys don’t need cocaine, guys don’t need this, they don’t need that, but they do it anyway. They do it for whatever reasons they do it. Jon Jones is one of the most gifted fighters I’ve ever met, maybe the most gifted fighter that I’ve ever met.”

Jon Jones' manager nearly willing to bet his life on the reason for positive anabolic steroid Turinabol test results

Russell Ess - August 24, 2017

Many were dumbfounded when news broke on Tuesday that Jon Jones was flagged by USADA for the second time in his career for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation. Back in July of last year, Jones was flagged for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation days before he was supposed to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200, which resulted in the cancellation of that scheduled fight and Jones was ultimately suspended for one year. Jones blamed a tainted sexual enhancement pill for his positive tests of the banned substances clomiphene and letrozole.

There is no doubt that Daniel Cormier is riding a seemingly endless roller coaster of emotions. With news breaking on Tuesday that Jon Jones was flagged for a second potential USADA violation, the future is still uncertain of what will come of the UFC light heavyweight championship title. With Jones being deemed a full and fair legal process before any sanctions are imposed, Cormier is laying off any judgment before that is done.
