Daniel Cormier admits he doesn't have a rivalry with Jon Jones if Jones wins at UFC 214
Tom Taylor - July 26, 2017
UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier and former champ Jon Jones share arguably the fiercest rivalry in MMA. Their rivalry began in the buildup to their first fight, which occurred back in January of 2015. On that night, Jones picked up a unanimous decision win, moving to 1-0 in his beef with Cormier. “The first time he beat me, it was in the most important moments, in the fourth and fifth rounds,” Cormier told UFC.com of that first loss to Jones. “The fourth round was his most dominant round, and in the fifth round, he pretty much won on control, holding me and pushing me against the fence.”

Jones’ big-ticket comeback was expected to occur in the main event of UFC 200, which served as the crescendo of 2016’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas. Regrettably, Jones failed a drug test in the lead-up to this event, which meant that his main event battle with Cormier was scrapped at the last minute. In the wake of this biblical disaster, UFC President Dana White assured he would never trust Jon Jones to headlined a UFC card again.

When people ask Daniel what he thinks about me inside the Octagon, he has sh*t to say about me.

It would show a lot about who he is. I doubt he’ll do that though based on how he acted the first time I beat him.”

Originally, last night’s UFC 213 was supposed to be the biggest card of the year thus far. Thanks to an unfortunate series of events, however, that title now belongs firmly to UFC 214, which goes down on July 29 in Anaheim California. This card will feature a whopping three title fights. The first will go down at featherweight, where Cris “Cyborg” Justino will collide with Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne. The second will occur at welterweight, where champ Tyron Woodley will attempt to defend his title against crafty grappling whiz Demian. The third, and biggest by a mile, will occur at light heavyweight, where champion Daniel Cormier will take on his fiercest rival – and the only man he’s lost to – Jon Jones.

Tom Taylor - July 6, 2017
The year is 2016. We are days away from the blockbuster UFC 200, a massive card that is topped by a headline-dominating rematch between light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and his arch rival Jon Jones. Anticipation has reached an all-time high, and the violent crescendo we’ve been waiting for has almost arrived. Then, the worst happens. On the 6th of July, Jones is notified of a potential USADA violation stemming from a mid-June USADA test, and he is pulled from the UFC 200 headliner as a result. Months later, in early November, it is announced that Jones is receiving a one-year suspension (retroactive to July 6th) as the result of this failed test.
