While Jones was cleared of any wrong-doing in the case of his failed random out-of-competition drug test back in July that resulted in his being pulled from his UFC 200 headlining scrap just 48 hours before fight-night, ‘Bones’ is still serving a one-year suspension for the situation despite the fact that the failed drug test was the result of a tainted supplement.

Earlier this month, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was set to fight top ranked light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 206. The fight was not only set to be a highly anticipated rematch, but would also serve as Cormier’s second title defense. Unfortunately, several weeks before the fight, Cormier was forced to pull out of the fight with a torn adductor in his groin, and as a result the fight was scrapped. The initial timetable for Cormier’s return, indicated that the champ could be making his return in spring of 2017, however there had been no official word from the champ himself on what course of action he would take to recover from the injury.

He has been suspended for one year. Because this suspension is retroactive to July 7, 2016, he’ll be able to fight again on July 7 of the coming year. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones did not get the exact result that was hoping for in his arbitration hearing for his Anti-Doping Policy violation sanction. In October, Jones was the first UFC fighter to go to arbitration over the sanction of his U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation that stemmed from an out-of-competition sample collected on June 16. Upon hearing the case, the three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions all came to the conclusion that Jones be suspended from competition for the maximum penalty of his particular case, which was one year. The term started back on July 6, where Jones began his period of ineligibility while things were sorted out in his “full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”

The failed test results had him pulled from UFC 200’s scheduled UFC light heavyweight championship fight against champion Daniel Cormier in July. Jones was the first UFC fighter to take his USADA case to arbitration, which was heard by three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions. After the arbitration was complete, a decision was made to give Jones his full sanction of a one-year suspension.
