Jon Jones returned to the octagon this past Saturday in Las Vegas, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Ovince Saint Preux in the main event of UFC 197, capturing the promotions interim light heavyweight title in the process. “Bones” five-round decision victory over “OSP” was not what some fans and analysts had expected.

The rematch could very well take place at UFC 200 depending on how quick Cormier’s leg heals.

In the main event of UFC 197, Jon Jones made a successful return to the Octagon and defeated Ovince Saint Preux to claim the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. With Jones’ interim light heavyweight title win, Jones will now face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship. After it was announced earlier this week that Conor McGregor would no longer be fighting Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200, Jones vs. DC II was mentioned as a possible main event for UFC 200 if Jones defeated OSP at UFC 197 and came out of the fight unscathed.

McGregor explained that the issue between himself and the UFC was a result of him not wanting to take away from his training by doing another world tour. Ultimately, McGregor left the decision of whether or not he will fight in the UFC’s hands, offering to do media obligations, but not another world tour at the expense of his training.

Before Jones was even re-instated by the UFC, he moved to Albuquerque New Mexico to train full time and live a healthier lifestyle. Jones spent a day with USA Today Sports back in March after it was announced that he would fight Ovince Saint Preux for the interim light heavyweight championship at UFC 197, rather than have a rematch with Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight championship.
