UFC 232 does second biggest PPV buy-rate of 2018

By Tom Taylor - January 11, 2019

UFC 232 was a massive success in terms of pay-per-view sales.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this stacked card sold roughly 700,000 pay-per-views.

This figure makes this card the second biggest PPV of 2018. It blew past nearly every other PPV on the promotion’s calendar, though it was still dwarfed by the massive UFC 229 card, which sold a whopping 2.4 million pay-per-views.

For context, UFC 231, which was headlined by a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega, and co-headlined by a flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Joann Jedrzejczyk, did a respectable 240,000 – 300,000 buys. Less than half of what UFC 232 did.

As Aaron Bronsteter of TSN points out, the average PPV buy-rate of 2018 was 447,307, which reaffirms that this card was something of a home run for the promotion. In fact, anything beyond 500,000 seems to be a victory for the promotion over the last few years.

UFC 232 was headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones — a proven draw for the UFC — and Alexander Gustafsson who, in 2013, gave Jones the toughest fight of his career. The card also included a women’s featherweight title super fight between Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg. It also featured other popular fighters like Carlos Condit and Chad Mendes, who have headlined pay-per-views previously.
