Jose Aldo’s interesting analysis of UFC 198

On Saturday, UFC 198 hits Curitiba, Brazil. On the highly anticipated card, quite a few Brazilian MMA legends will fight in front of Brazilian fans. With that being said however, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo believes that Cris Cyborg and Fabricio Werdum are the only Brazilian fighters he is confident will win.

Unfortunately, former pound for pound kingpin Anderson Silva, who was slated to fight Uriah Hall on the card, was forced off the card and ultimately needed his gallbladder removed.

Aldo spoke to Sherdog.com ahead of his UFC 200 interim featherweight title fight against Frankie Edgar on July 9th:

“I’m anxious to see that show. It’s no doubt one of the best cards of the year and among the best UFC events ever promoted in Brazil. There are no easy fights on this card. The only two fights I would bet money on would be Werdum and ‘Cyborg.’ In all the other fights, anything can happen.”

“[Patrick] Cummins is such a strong opponent, but the fact that Rogerio is a southpaw may give him some problems,” Aldo said. “I believe the same thing will happen for ‘Shogun,’ who is really popular in the city and will face another strong guy in [Corey Anderson].”

Aldo was then asked to give his prediction for the co-main event scrap between Vitor Belfort and Jacare Souza, which many believe is for the middleweight #1 contender spot.

“It’s going to be a war, but I’m cheering 100 percent for ‘Jacare.’ I’ve known him since our jiu-jitsu days,” he said. “He’s also from Manaus, and we traveled together to competitions a couple times. I believe he’ll take Belfort to the ground and submit him.”
