Jose Aldo gives weight update ahead of bantamweight debut

At UFC 245, which will go down on December 14 in Las Vegas, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will debut in the bantamweight division against a fellow Brazilian in Marlon Moraes. Given that Aldo was always a pretty big featherweight — and that he’s struggled to make the featherweight limit of 145 pounds previously — many fans are worried he’ll struggle to make the 136-pound limit for his bantamweight fight with Moraes. Some fans flatly believe he’ll fail to hit that mark.

UFC 245 promises to be a star-studded fight card. The event will take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on the December 14. In the UFC 245 main event, the current welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, will look to defend his title for the first time against Colby Covington. “The Nigerian Nightmare” claimed the belt from Tyron Woodley in their UFC 235 bout by unanimous decision. Likewise, Covington has been riding high on an impressive streak victories. Most recently, “Chaos” dominated former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler throughout five rounds to take the unanimous decision victory.
Dantas: Jose Aldo will ‘surprise everyone’ in bantamweight debut

Jose Aldo’s longtime training partner Eduardo Dantas has claimed that Aldo is going to surprise everyone upon making his official bantamweight debut. Dantas, a former two-time champion in Bellator, has been with Aldo for over a decade over in Brazil, and will play an integral role in assisting him for his new weight venture. Many have questioned Aldo’s decision to go down instead of up, with many believing that he instead should’ve given lightweight a try.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is set to make his bantamweight debut next month at UFC 245, and pictures from his training camp are emerging. Aldo announced recently that he will be dropping down to 135lbs for the first time in his career when he takes on fellow Brazilian Marlon Moraes at UFC 245 on December 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a huge opportunity for Aldo against a former title challenger in Moraes, and if he wins this fight he would immediately jump into title contender for UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo’s belt.

UFC veterans Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber have confirmed opponents for UFC 245 The former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo has moved down to bantamweight to fight the No 1 ranked contender Marlon Moraes. ‘Magic’ Moraes last fought the bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo in June at UFC 238. His shot at the title fell flat as ‘Triple C’ finished him via TKO in the third round. Jose Aldo is looking to return to championship glory and take the bantamweight belt from Henry Cejudo. A win against the No 1 ranked contender, Moraes, could lead to that title shot.

Not long ago, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo hinted at an imminent weight class change. Contrary to his previous comments, however, he’s not floating a move to lightweight. Instead, he wants to drop to bantamweight and challenge the reigning champion Henry Cejudo for gold in that division. “I sat down with everybody, did a study, and I think there’s a real possibility I can make 61kg [135 pounds],” Aldo told Brazilian website Combate (via MMAFighting). “This is the new division I want to move to, and I’m asking for the title shot right away. That’s what matters for me now. Cejudo said he’s open to (fighting) anyone, so I’m open to that. I want the opportunity to fight against him and beat him.”

UFC president Dana White appears to be open to Jose Aldo possibly moving down a weight class. Not long ago, the clock was ticking on Aldo’s mixed martial arts career. The man who once ruled the roost at featherweight was planning to retire from MMA competition at the end of 2019. Aldo even considered transitioning to boxing. Those plans changed as Aldo signed a long-term deal with the UFC back in June.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Jared Cannonier TKO’d Anderson Silva via leg kicks in the first round after attacking his lead leg the entire round.
