Last week, news broke that former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had been hospitalized with a bacterial infection, casting uncertainty on the status of his compelling UFC 237 showdown with Alex Volkanovski. Luckily, Jose Aldo has since been released from the hospital, and is expected to remain on the UFC 237 card despite this health scare.

Bad news has begun to brew in regards to one of UFC 237’s big fights in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 11. Learn how to watch UFC 237 here Combate has reported that former UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo was hospitalized on Wednesday after suffering a small cut to his knee that led to a bacterial infection. According to the report, attempts at antibiotic treatments were unsuccessful until 24 hours later. His fever has since gone away.

While this was the outcome he sought, however, he did not take great pleasure in defeating one of his countryman, and a fighter still on the come-up.

Aldo was able to catch Moicano with a beautiful counter punch that had Renato in all sorts of trouble. From there, Jose Aldo would fire off some ruthless body shots which prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight.

Renato Moicano is a rising star in the UFC’s featherweight division. He’s been with the UFC since 2014 and has gone 5-1 during that time with his only loss coming against Brian Ortega. Since the loss to Ortega, Moicano defeated Calvin Kattar and Cub Swanson to then become the backup fighter for the UFC 231 main event. Moicano ended up not having to fight as Max Holloway and Ortega both made weight. However, being the backup fighter showed he was the number one contender at featherweight, and he has to prove that when he takes on Jose Aldo at UFC Fortaleza.
