In the co-main event of UFC 299, Saint-Denis was fighting Poirier in a highly-anticipated lightweight bout. It was an intriguing matchup that many were torn on who would win. In the first round, Saint-Denis had a ton of success, and to begin the second round, he got ahold of Poirier’s back and looked like he was close to finishing him.

However, Poirier got back to his feet and landed an uppercut and then a right hook that knocked Saint-Denis out. It was a great performance from Poirier and one person who was thrilled to see it was Justin Gaethje.

“Yes! Yes, yes! F**k that kid,” Gaethje said.

Why Justin Gaethje doesn’t like Benoit Saint-Denis is uncertain, but he was thrilled to see Dustin Poirier get the knockout win. Of course, Gaethje and Poirier do have a mutual respect with one another as the two have fought each other twice and have praised each other throughout their careers.

Benoit Saint-Denis did call out Justin Gaethje after his win over Matt Frevola, but ‘The Highlight’ didn’t take the callout to heart as he actually liked the Frenchman.

“Benoit didn’t come out of nowhere, but he’s just starting to fight these big fights,” Gaethje said to Kevin Iole. “I love that he was calling me out, and I think Dustin Poirier is the perfect fight. That’s who he should have been calling out, and that’s the fight he should be taking.”

Although Justin Gaethje was happy to see Dustin Poirier KO Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299, by ‘The Diamond’ getting the win, he may get the next title shot and not Gaethje. Gaethje is set to fight Max Holloway at UFC 300, so he may not be able to turn around and face Islam Makhachev in June.

But, Gaethje is focused on Holloway anyway but he was glad to see his former opponent get the KO win over Saint-Denis.
