Kevin Holland thinks Michael Page is just focused on getting “paid” ahead of UFC debut
Kevin Holland thinks Michael Page only cares about getting paid ahead of his UFC debut.
Page signed with the UFC last year and it was announced he would be making his debut at UFC 299 against Kevin Holland. It was a bit of a surprise that ‘MVP’ had signed with the UFC as he is about to turn 37 next month. Yet, Holland thinks Page finally signed with the UFC because he knows his career is coming to an end and he wanted to get paid as much as possible.
“Always being a fan of mixed martial arts, seeing a guy like Michael Page do his thing, it’s always been amazing. (He’s) coming over to the UFC a little bit later than I expected him to ever do, kind of thought he never would,” Kevin Holland said to ESPN. “But, it’s nice to see him coming over and it’s nice to be the welcoming party… Tail end of your career, you just want to get paid, so, obviously he must be getting a pretty big bag to come over here and fight a guy like me.”
Although Kevin Holland thinks Michael Page was just focused on getting paid, he wasn’t surprised he is his debut opponent. When Holland heard talks of Page potentially signing in the UFC, he thought he would be his first opponent.
“When they started doing the back-and-forth on if ‘Venom’ Page is going to the UFC or going to one of these new promotions that are buying the old leagues. I had a feeling, if he comes this way it’s probably going to be me. So, granted it was me… You need a gunslinger, I’m usually the gunslinger you call, so figured it would be me,” Holland added.
Kevin Holland enters the fight as a small betting favorite against Michael Page at UFC 299. However, he has full confidence he will be able to get his hand raised and return to the win column.
Holland enters his UFC 299 fight coming off a split decision loss to Jack Della Maddalena. Before that, he scored a submission win over Michael Chiesa and knocked out Santiago Ponzinibbio.
