The UFC returned to Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday for UFC 279 which was a much different card than originally planned. In the main event, Nate Diaz ended up fighting Tony Ferguson after Khamzat Chimaev missed weight by 7.5lbs for his scrap against Diaz. The Swede was then dropped to the co-main event and was booked to face Kevin Holland.

Khamzat Chimaev attempted to explain his massive weight miss to a hostile crowd at the UFC 279 ceremonial weigh-ins. Chimaev (11-0 MMA) was of course slated to compete against Nate Diaz (21-13 MMA) in the headliner of Saturday night’s pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. However, after ‘Borz’ missed weight by a whopping 7.5lbs earlier this morning, the bout was called off as Diaz was not willing to entertain a catchweight contest.

Kevin Holland has opened up on what needs to happen for him to accept a fight against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279. Chimaev was supposed to headline UFC 279 against Nate Diaz at welterweight in a massive fight for the promotion. Holland, meanwhile, was set to take on Daniel Rodriguez in a 180lbs catchweight bout. However, at the weigh-ins, Chimaev missed weight by 7.5lbs and sources now have told BJPENN.com the hope is to do Diaz-Ferguson and Holland-Chimaev.

Khamzat Chimaev and Kevin Holland and their teams continued to bicker at one another following the press conference being canceled. Before the press conference was set to begin, Dana White said “all hell broke loose” and there was a scuffle. The UFC boss was then forced to cancel the event, and he gave more details about it as he said Chimaev and Holland went at it followed by Diaz’s team being part of it.

Holland participated in the event opposite his upcoming opponent Daniel Rodriguez. Once finished fielding questions from the media, ‘Trailblazer’ and ‘D-Rod’ made their way backstage so the next set of fighters could come on.

Back in September of 2020, Chimaev accosted him at the UFC fighter hotel, getting physical with ‘Trailblazer’ over an Instagram comment about wearing masks. “He only does this extra wannabe street s*** when the media is around,” Holland said during UFC 279 media day interviews. “Other than that, he doesn’t do it.
