Kevin Lee targeting fight with “f***ing madman” Justin Gaethje

By Tom Taylor - August 30, 2018

When Justin Gaethje knocked out James Vick in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC Lincoln card, he got the attention of a fellow lightweight contender in Kevin Lee.

Speaking on Submission Radio this week, Kevin Lee discussed Justin Gaethje’s big win, and said he’d love to fight him next.

“I loved that fight,” Lee said of the UFC Lincoln main event (transcript via MMANytt). “It’s way more appealing to me now too. Justin is a mark and I’m like a lion. Every day I wake up, I just try and look for my next target, I look for my next meal. And right there Justin showed me himself, so I like that. I like a fight, especially like that, because Justin’s a fucking mad man. So he’s gonna bring out the best in me and he’s really gonna let me show off for the rest of these guys that already know the business.

“I’m in a situation right now where I’m having a hard time getting fights because guys know when you sign up to fight me you’re signing up for a hard fight, you ain’t gonna win that fight. So not a lot of people are signing that line. Justin just might be crazy enough to do it. So, I was all smiles. I was like, alright, I got me a dance partner if anything.”

Kevin Lee has also recently been linked to a potential fight with former title challenger Al Iaquinta. Apparently, however, this fight has been a tricky one to nail down. As a result, Lee seems to have mostly lost interest in it.

“Al knows the business, Al knows the real deal and he knows he’s talking that, but he really gonna be playing games at the end of the day. When I approached him (about) fighting me in October on this card, that’s when he really got… you could see he pulled back a lot. He talking about, ‘oh, you wanna fight in China,’ and all this instead. And I’m like, come one, you either wanna fight or you don’t. And when he took the fight with Gaethje in his last one, you know, he signed the contract and didn’t bother showing up.

“I’m not gonna waste my time with somebody like that. If he got better things to do then I got better things to do, and that’s what’s gonna get done. If he’s serious about the fight, then he knows the right mediums to approach. You gotta go through a couple of people to get to me. I ain’t one of these dudes that’s gonna sit here and go back and forth with y’all on Twitter. I’m working, I got better things to do. I got world championships to win.”
