It has been twelve months since Khabib Nurmagomedov lost his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. The 57-year-old, Abdulmanap, tragically passed away due to complications from Covid-19 on July 3, 2020.

Georges St-Pierre is not optimistic about a superfight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, saying that “we’re never going to see it, unfortunately.” St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov are both universally regarded as two of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, and there has been chatter about a potential matchup between these two legends over the last several years. However, with GSP retired and with Nurmagomedov recently hanging up his gloves, the possibility of a dream matchup between them seems very unlikely at this point. UFC president Dana White is apparently still holding out hope for a fight, but with both fighters retired, it seems like a pipe dream.

Sterling (20-3 MMA) captured the promotions bantamweight championship this past March after Petr Yan (15-2 MMA) was disqualified from their fight due to an illegal knee in round four.

Nurmagomedov recently sat down with UFC Russia for an interview and was asked about a variety of different topics. One of the questions posed to “The Eagle” was about his stablemate at Dominance MMA, the UFC welterweight champion Usman, and who would win in a superfight against the legend GSP. As far as Nurmagomedov is concerned, Usman would be the one getting his hand raised in 2021, but he believes that if this fight took place back in GSP’s prime around 2010, that the result of the fight would likely be different.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has given his prediction for the trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. McGregor and Poirier fought back in January where Poirier exacted his revenge with a second-round TKO win over the Irishman. After the fight, both men called for the trilogy and it will headline UFC 264 from the T-Mobile Arena on July 10. According to Nurmagomedov, who fought and beat both of them, believes if McGregor can’t finish Poirier in the first round he will lose the fight.

UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov reaffirmed his decision to retire, saying that “I have no desire to come back and I don’t think I ever will.” Nurmagomedov first revealed his intentions to step away from mixed martial arts following his submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 last October. That victory improved Nurmagomedov’s MMA record to a perfect 29-0, and UFC president Dana White was hoping the legend would come back for one final fight and try to make it an even 30-0. However, “The Eagle” decided that it was the right time to walk away and he vacated the UFC lightweight title and officially stepped away from the sport earlier this year.

Nurmagomedov was the best lightweight fighter in the sport before officially announcing his retirement from MMA earlier this year. As part of his retirement, Nurmagomedov vacated the UFC’s 155lbs belt, which Oliveira won when he knocked out Michael Chandler at UFC 262. Speaking to Sport 24, Nurmagomedov praised the new champion Oliveira for his victory, but cautioned that he won’t be champion for long. As far as “The Eagle” is concerned, Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier will take Oliveira’s belt from him.

Of course, the former champion Nurmagomedov gave up his belt a few months ago which was the reason the vacant title was available in the first place. Now that Oliveira has won the belt in such impressive fashion, there have been some suggestions that Nurmagomedov could be interested in the fight. But if you ask Usman, although fans might want to watch this fight, he thinks he knows what would happen.

Usman picked up his 14th straight win this past Saturday night when he knocked out Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261. It was another incredible performance by Usman, who continues to show improvements to his game and evolution to his skill set every time we see him step into the Octagon. At this point, he’s nearly cleaned out the UFC welterweight division as he’s beaten nearly everyone in the top-five rankings. Though Usman seems destined for a rematch with Colby Covington next, he’s already beaten him, too, so you can see why he is considering what other sort of challenges there are out there.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken a shot at Tony Ferguson. Ever since they were first booked to fight one another, Ferguson has been trash-talking Nurmagomedov. Then, after the lightweight champ retired from the sport in October, “El Cucuy” blasted him for not fighting him and has claimed Nurmagomedov retired 29-1. However, Nurmagomedov doesn’t appear to think that is true as he blasted Ferguson for focusing on him instead of Beneil Dariush.
