UFC standout Khamzat Chimaev was involved in an altercation with security at a recent MMA event in Sweden. Chimaev (10-0 MMA), who recently agreed to an April 9th showdown with former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns (see more on that here), was in attendance at a local MMA event in his native Sweden this past weekend.

Alexander Gustafsson believes his training partner Khamzat Chimaev is the real deal. Chimaev burst onto the scene in 2020 as he fought twice in 10 days and then scored a one-punch KO over Gerald Meerschaert. He was later booked to headline a card against Leon Edwards, but due to COVID the fight never came to fruition.

Khamzat Chimaev has agreed to fight former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns on April 9. Chimaev (10-0 MMA) last competed at October’s UFC 267 event, where he needed less than a round to dispose of ranked welterweight Li Jingliang. That contest was Khamzat’s first since September of 2020, where he had scored a sensational 18-second knockout win over Gerald Meerschaert (see that here).

It’s been said by UFC president Dana White that nobody wants to fight Khamzat Chimaev and based on recent evidence, there’s every chance that’s true. “Borz” is already 4-0 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and in 2022, many fans and pundits believe there’s a good chance he will compete for the welterweight title.

While he isn’t necessarily known as someone who is going to produce finishes that’ll end up going viral, he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on at 170 pounds.

UFC welterweight Vicente Luque has noted that he hasn’t heard Khamzat Chimaev say his name when discussing his next fight. In his last four fights, Vicente Luque has gone 4-0 which includes two big submission wins over Tyron Woodley and Michael Chiesa in the last calendar year. In total, across his last 16 bouts, the Brazilian sensation has gone 14-2 with his only defeats coming at the hands of Leon Edwards and Stephen Thompson.

The hype only continued after he knocked out Gerald Meerschaert with one punch and a year later, submitted Li Jingliang at UFC 267 to cement himself as a contender. Yet for Covington, he thinks he would halt all of Chimaev’s hype and beat him badly, and possibly derail his career.

Yesterday, Diaz (20-13 MMA) revealed that the UFC had recently offered him a bout with Chimaev to serve as the final fight of his current contract. Nate was insulted with the UFC’s decision to offer him a “rookie” and voiced his displeasure with TMZ Sports.

Nate Diaz believes Conor McGregor should fight Khamzat Chimaev in his UFC return so that he can taper back in and see if he can fight at all. Diaz (20-13 MMA), who is currently on the last fight of his contract with the UFC, has been clamoring for a fight for some time now. Despite showing interest in potential showdowns with Vicente Luque, Tony Ferguson and Kamaru Usman, the UFC allegedly approached the ‘Stockton Slugger’ with the idea of fighting Khamzat Chimaev.

What “Borz” has been doing has been incredible to watch, and there are many fans and media who believe he could be in line to get a title shot at 170lbs in 2022. But before he gets the title shot, the UFC wants him to fight at least once more, preferably against Diaz.
