Kyler Phillips believes his speed and striking will be too much for Pedro Munhoz to handle at UFC 299.

Phillips is coming off a decision win over Raoni Barcelos back in August and after the victory, he figured a ranked opponent would be next. Phillips is on a two-fight winning streak and is 5-1 in the UFC, so he’s eager to face someone like Munhoz who has fought some of the who’s who of the bantamweight division.

“I thought I was going to get someone in the rankings, so I was prepared for that. I can’t wait, dude… It’s just a step up in competition for me and for him. It’s part of my career where I really start to show the world who I am as a fighter,” Phillips said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com.

Heading into the fight at UFC 299, Kyler Phillips expects it to primarily play out on the feet. But, Phillips thinks Munhoz may shoot on him once he realizes how much slower he is.

“He might try and shoot a couple of times, or kick me,” Phillips said. “I think I am too fast for him, I move differently, a lot of different processes of MMA he won’t be used to… I think with me though, I can play in every area, I’m comfortable. If I do it my way they can’t catch up.”

With Kyler Phillips expecting to be faster than Pedro Munhoz at UFC 299, he thinks he will be a step ahead of the Brazilian which will lead to the win.

“I see it a lot of different ways, he is a very skilled fighter and knows how to play in different ranges. He can bang, he can pull you into a slugfest which he is good at, and he can also throw some good kicks, and do that at the highest level with the best guys in the world. It depends on how he will adapt, I think I’m just going to be ahead there,” Phillips said.

If Phillips does get his hand raised, he gets closer to fighting for the title. Although the current bantamweight champ is Sean O’Malley who is his close friend, Phillips says he and ‘Suga’ have already had discussions about a potential fight between them.

“We have trained with each other for years, there is a picture of me, Mario, and Sean from like 10 years ago. We love each other, whatever happens, just train, love each other, and fight each other,” Phillips said.
