Streaking UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards has some advice for Khamzat Chimaev, who has recently made many high-profile callouts. Chimaev is easily the most hyped prospect in MMA at present, having gone 3-0 since July, with wins over John Phillips, Rhys McKee and most recently, Gerald Meerschaert. On the heels of those wins, the welterweight and middleweight super-prospect has called for fights with the likes of Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal, Nick Diaz, Demian Maia and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Edwards, however, believes the Sweden-based Russian is getting a bit ahead of himself.

Stephen Thompson has now responded to a recent snub from fellow top-10 welterweight contender Leon Edwards. Late last month, Thompson, who is known as one of the nicest guys in MMA, made his “first ever” Twitter callout, suggesting a matchup with the streaking Edwards.

Covington defeated Woodley via fifth-round stoppage in a lopsided beating in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 11 event. Burns has been bulldozing his way through the division and was expected to put his skills the test against Usman at UFC 251. However, Burns tested posted for COVID-19 and was forced out of the championship fight that took place on Fight Island.

UFC welterweight contenders Leon Edwards and Gilbert Burns traded shots at each other on social media over who should get the next title shot at 170lbs. In March, Edwards was set to fight Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC London but the card was scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the UFC booked Gilbert Burns against Woodley in Las Vegas, and Burns ended up dominating the former champ by unanimous decision to become the No. 1 contender at 170lbs. Burns was then set to fight Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, but tested positive for COVID-19, which allowed Jorge Masvidal to slip in and fight for the belt. Usman ended up beating Masvidal by decision.

Leon Edwards is looking to get a fight with Colby Covington or Gilbert Burns next, this in hopes of earning a title shot. Edwards was supposed to headline UFC London against Tyron Woodley, where many were assuming he won, he would get a title shot. Yet, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Englishman has yet to get a fight since. He said he was offered the title fight before Burns but couldn’t take it due to lack of training and the COVID-19 restrictions in England.
