Luke Rockhold vs. Lorenz Larkin set for January 12 Strikeforce event | Strikeforce News

By Chris Taylor - November 8, 2012

Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin have a new date, this after their title fight was postponed due to injury, and then a card cancellation.

The current Strikeforce middleweight champion Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF),  and number 1 contender Lorenz Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) are being targeted for an unannounced Strikeforce card set for January 12, 2013.

Rockhold is unbeaten in Strikeforce and has defended his belt twice since winning it from Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Rockhold most recently defended his title in July, defeating challenger Tim Kennedy by unanimous decision in Portland, Oregon. Prior the Kennedy bout, Rockhold made quick work of Keith Jardine, stopping him in the first round of their January 2012 fight.

Larkin comes into the title bout fresh off a dominant win over Robbie Lawler at “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” in July. Larkin, who is undefeated in his MMA career, suffered a second-round knockout loss to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in January, but Lawal tested positive for a banned steroid and the result was flipped to a no contest.

Rockhold and Larkin were initially scheduled to meet in the co-main event of Strikeforce’s November 3rd show in Oklahoma City, but that card was scrapped soon after Rockhold was forced out with a wrist injury.

During the cancellation announcement, Showtime and Strikeforce executives stated that a blockbuster card was being planned for January. More announcements are expected soon, so stay tuned to bjpenn.com for further updates.
