Mark Hunt: “Cheater” Alistair Overem is ‘like the rest of these guys’
Heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt has been one of the most vocal advocates for a cleaner sport. Following Hunt’s UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar, which was overturned to a no contest after Lesnar failed a pair of drug tests, Hunt went on to call for the UFC to put a provision in contracts protecting fighters from opponents who use PEDs.
The UFC was unwilling to put the provisions into contracts, and Hunt ultimately took the promotion to court. While he has maintained that the only reason he accepted a UFC 209 fight with Alistair Overeem was because the promotion forced him to, Hunt believes Overeem is a cheater as well, likely due to his 2012 failed drug test.
He spoke to MMAFighting:
“I met him earlier. I can be cool to anyone, I just, I’ll tell him to his face I don’t like him, what he stands for, he’s a cheater like the rest of these guys. I think they’re all just cheaters, what they stand for is nothing. They’re just cowards, but I’m always cool to him. I’m going to be cool to him of course, just like when I see Dana. I’m going to shake his hand, if he doesn’t want to shake my hand fine.”
Hunt was then asked about a potential incident with Overeem which occurred yesterday, which he brushed off as a minor situation:
“I just saw him and said ‘I was just talking about…’ I’ve been wanking over the past three days about steroids, and when I saw him I said, ‘Here goes that fucking cheater.'”
While Hunt is unsure as to whether or not Overeem heard him, he was very open about the fact that he didn’t care, and he would be fine telling Overeem to his face that he believes he is a cheater.
Hunt also went on to reiterate that he would sue Overeem if he failed a drug test.
