Mark Hunt gets sent off for upcoming fight against Derrick Lewis with intense haka
The outspoken knockout specialist Mark Hunt is set to headline UFC Fight Night 110 in his home country of New Zealand on Saturday, June 10. Hunt will take on fellow heavy-handed heavyweight Derrick Lewis for a fight that should have fans on their feet in the Vector Arena in Auckland.
With a little over a week to go, Hunt was sent off by his friends and training partners with an intense haka performance.
The haka is an ancient war dance of the Maori people, who are the indigenous people of New Zealand. The haka has been made popular throughout the world as the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team has famously performed the haka before their games.
In the video, we see the team backing Hunt including Jason Momoa, who starred in the Game of Thrones HBO series, doing the haka before Hunt goes on his way to fight Lewis in the main event next weekend.
Hunt said the following in an Instagram post of the intense send off:
Blown away is a understatement I’m extremely humbled to be a part of the heartbreak family and thank you all so much for the prayer and haka today I’m speechless 😶 I will always go out into battle and give it my all and I appreciate the love I have felt from you guys here today ❤️ fighting is a part of our culture and has always been a part of my life and I’m so blessed to share a part of my journey with you guys @heartbreakconditioning @colehbc @junior.tafa @fabio_galeb @justin_tafa @esera_teo @prideofgypsies @realdealmada @j_k_porter @ryancarr_ketu @jojo_ancajas @bambamthetakeover so many more to name but I’ve had a lot of kicks to the lips sorry bout it.
