bjpenndotcom - December 23, 2016

Over the course of this week, reports have continued to surface that fan favorite heavyweight Mark Hunt will be fighting MMA veteran Alistair Overeem at UFC 209. Despite that, Hunt has continued to maintain that he will not be fighting until the UFC agrees to put a clause in his contract protecting him from fighting a fighter who ends up testing positive for PEDs. Hunt has maintained following his UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar, who failed two drug tests surrounding the fight, that he would not fight again until the UFC put a provision in contracts protecting fighters from those who fail drug tests.

Yesterday afternoon, reports of a thrilling UFC 209 heavyweight rematch between recent title challenger Alistair Overeem and fan favorite knockout artist Mark Hunt began to swirl. The bout seemed to mark the end of Hunt’s long, anti-UFC tirade, which stemmed from the PED bust of his UFC 200 opponent Brock Lesnar, and the UFC’s apparent lack of concern about this bust. This matchup was announced by the UFC, and reported by many major MMA news outlets, including Hunt’s own website, where quotes from Hunt about the rematch were featured. Apparently, however, this fight is not a done deal just yet.

When the UFC announced that Lesnar and Hunt would be fighting at UFC 200 during the UFC 199 broadcast in June, it was also revealed that the UFC had granted Lesnar an exemption from the mandatory transitionary period in which an inactive fighter is tested by USADA for several months prior to becoming an active fighter. With just one month to go until fight night, Lesnar was only subject to one month of testing, rather than the 4 standard 4 months.

Tom Taylor - October 30, 2016

As the UFC’s 200th pay-per-view card, UFC 200 was always supposed to be stacked to the rim with talent. Unfortunately, the landmark card was ceaselessly battered by injuries, PED-busts and more, leaving the UFC scrambling to keep the its lineup in tact until it finally occured on July 9 of this year. One of the organization’s key efforts to assure UFC 200 was up to snuff in spite of the many blows its was dealt was their signing of former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar, who won the title from Randy Couture in 2008 and surrendered it to Cain Velasquez in 2010, has spent the last few years competing as a pro wrestler for WWE. Despite being under contract with this organization, he was allowed to compete in a “one-off” return to the Octagon in UFC 200’s co-main event, where he took on Brick fisted Kiwi Mark Hunt.
