Marlon Vera hopes to return in New York against a former UFC champion
Marlon Vera is hoping to make his return in New York against a former UFC champion.
Vera (23-9 MMA) had his chance at bantamweight gold earlier this month when he met up with Sean O’Malley (18-1 MMA) at UFC 299. However, it would be the reigning champion, ‘Suga‘, who would be awarded the unanimous decision victory that Saturday night in Miami, Florida.
Following the loss, ‘Chito’ is already targeting a venue and fighter for his next bout.
It was during a recent appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani that Marlon Vera shared his disappointment in the loss to O’Malley, but went on to say he will eventually get revenge and gold:
“I will eventually get gold. I will eventually get revenge. And now, let’s see what’s available. I am aiming — I would love to fight in New York. I love New York. I think that’s my city. I feel I’m maybe from Queens. Hopefully I get to get on that card.”
Concluding, the 31-year-old shared who he wants to fight next (h/t MMANews):
“I was hoping to fight Yan in November. I feel that’s a great fight, that fight makes sense. He’s a former champion, he beat a really good talent in Song Yadong.”
Petr Yan (17-5 MMA) did indeed meet and defeat Song Yadong (21-8 MMA) by unanimous decision at that very same UFC 299 event on March 9th.
Yan although emerging the winner, and putting his 3-fight losing streak behind him, ruptured his ACL, tore his meniscus and groin in the process, making it doubtful he’ll be able to return to action in this calendar year.
Would you like to see ‘Chito’ vs. ‘No Mercy’ in the future? If not, who would you like to see Marlon Vera fight next?
