UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera called for a fight against divisional rival Merab Dvalishvili after KOing Frankie Edgar at UFC 268. Vera finished Edgar with a devastating front kick in the third round of their main card bantamweight bout at this past weekend’s UFC 268 pay-per-view event. It was an absolutely phenomenal victory by Vera, who will now be ranked in the top-10 after taking out Edgar in such an impressive fashion. Now that he’s in the top-10 of the UFC bantamweight division, Vera can now start calling out the top guys in the division. By beating Edgar, Vera now has the ability to call out some big names, and he has one in mind in particular in Dvalishvili, who Vera believes he has the style to potentially defeat.

UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera reacted after knocking out MMA legend Frankie Edgar at UFC 268, saying “this is a dream come true.” Vera knocked out Edgar with a front kick late in the third round of their UFC 268 main card bantamweight fight. It was a phenomenal victory by Vera, who is now poised to enter the top-10 rankings in the stacked UFC 135lbs weight class. For Vera, this knockout over Edgar represents by far the biggest win of his career on paper, and he did it in style, too, winning a $50,000 bonus for “Performance of the Night” for his incredible knockout.

A bantamweight bout featuring Frankie Edgar taking on Marlon Vera took place on the main card of tonight’s UFC 268 event at MSG. Edgar (23-10-1 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since suffering a nasty knockout loss to Cory Sandhagen back in February. Prior to that setback, the former UFC lightweight champion was coming off a split decision win over Pedro Munhoz.

An exciting bantamweight contest between top-15 ranked veterans Frankie Edgar and Marlon Vera has been added to UFC 268. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to confirm that Edgar vs. Vera will take place at UFC 268, which is set to take place on November 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The UFC had been looking for an opponent for Edgar for several weeks now, and had offered the fight to top prospect Sean O’Malley, but “Suga” turned down the fight, saying he didn’t want to fight in NYC. Instead, the only man to defeat O’Malley in the UFC in Vera will be the one who ends up getting the fight against Edgar at UFC 268 after all.

UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera said that Dominick Cruz and Jimmie Rivera declined to fight him, and he is interested in Urijah Faber. Vera took to his social media this week to say that Cruz declined to fight him, this coming a few weeks after Vera publicly called him out. With Vera ranked No. 13 at 135lbs and with Cruz at No. 9, “The Dominator” has said that he only wants to fight up in competition, so even though Vera would be a great fight, you can understand why Cruz wants a top-10 foe.

UFC Vegas 29 rankings update: Marlon Vera moves up, Aleksei Oleinik falls off

The official UFC rankings have been updated following UFC Vegas 29, and Marlon Vera moved up the ranks while Aleksei Oleinik fell out. Vera beat up Davey Grant to pick up a unanimous decision win and bounce back into the win column after losing a decision to Jose Aldo in his last fight. With the impressive win over Grant, Vera moved up from No. 15 in the UFC bantamweight rankings to No. 13. In turn, Cody Stamann dropped two spots down to No. 15. For Vera, beating Grant this past weekend in a “Fight of the Night” performance and having a previous knockout win over Sean O’Malley from two fights ago puts him in a good position at 135lbs. Vera wants to fight former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz next, but we’ll see what happens.

Sean O’Malley didn’t think Marlon Vera looked all that good on Saturday night against Davey Grant. Vera returned at UFC Vegas 29 on the main card to rematch Grant in an anticipated bout. Ultimately, it was “Chito” who got his hand raised winning a clear-cut decision as he battered Grant for the final two rounds. Yet, for O’Malley, he says he didn’t think Vera looked that impressive.

UFC bantamweight contender Marlon Vera called out Dominick Cruz following his win over Davey Grant at UFC Vegas 29, saying “it makes sense.” Vera won a unanimous decision over Grant in their rematch which was the “Fight of the Night” at Saturday’s UFC Vegas 29 event. After a strong start for Grant in the first round, Vera really started to take control of the fight as it went along, cutting Grant with elbows and then smashing him on the ground with punches. Grant proved tough enough to make it the full 15 minutes, but Vera won a lopsided decision when the judges’ scorecards were revealed. It was a big win for Vera to bounce back after losing to Jose Aldo in his last fight.

O’Malley came into the fight with an unbeaten record, but early on in the first round, he suffered an ankle injury that caused him to lose his footing and fall to the mat, where Vera finished him with strikes. Since then, O’Malley has returned to the cage with a brilliant TKO win over Thomas Almeida, while Vera lost a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo in his last outing. With Vera and O’Malley battling it out for the No. 15 ranking in the UFC bantamweight division, a rematch makes sense.

Early on, “Suga” was having success landing some strikes but Vera then landed some leg kicks that changed the entire fight. He caused O’Malley to have ‘drop foot’ and he kept on rolling his ankles and Vera eventually got on top of him, and ground and pounded him out to earn a first-round TKO.

UFC bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley recently explained the only way he would accept a rematch against his bitter rival Marlon Vera. O’Malley and Vera met back at UFC 252 in August, and the Ecuadorian fighter pulled off the upset when he finished O’Malley in the first round with strikes. O’Malley injured his ankle in that fight and Vera took advantage of his ailment by putting him away via TKO. But in the months since that fight took place, O’Malley has refused to accept that it was a legitimate loss. After Vera lost a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo at UFC Vegas 17, O’Malley used it as an opportunity to scoff at his rival Vera.
