Poland’s Jan Blachowicz would end up getting the better of his fellow champion by way of a unanimous decision on the night – doing so primarily by utilizing his grappling in the final rounds. The UFC 263 card looks more stacked than ever after it was confirmed that Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards has been moved to this event. Diaz and Edwards were initially set to square off at UFC 262 which will take place next weekend. However, it’s now been confirmed that an undisclosed minor injury has forced it to be moved back a month to UFC 263 in Glendale.

After Whittaker (23-5 MMA) scored a dominant victory over Kelvin Gastelum last weekend, which extended his current winning streak to three in a row, many fans expected that a rematch with reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya would be next for the Aussie.

The betting odds have been released for the rematch between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and rival Marvin Vettori at UFC 263. Adesanya and Vettori first met in 2018 with Adesanya winning a split decision in what was one of his toughest fights at middleweight during his UFC career. After a failed attempt at moving up in weight and taking on UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz last month, Adesanya will return back to 185lbs for his next title defense against Vettori. Although we thought that former champion Robert Whittaker would have been next in line to fight Adesanya in a rematch between the two rivals, the UFC decided to go with Vettori instead because the promotion has a date to fill on June 12 and Whittaker couldn’t take it.

After Robert Whittaker defeated Kelvin Gastelum on April 17, many expected the former middleweight champ to get the next title shot. However, June was reportedly too quick of a turnaround for him so the promotion decided to book Adesanya vs. Vettori 2, according to Combate.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that Marvin Vettori could be next in line to fight UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. After beating Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Vegas 24 last weekend for his third straight win, it was widely assumed that Robert Whittaker, the No. 1 contender at 185lbs, would be the next in line to fight Adesanya. However, while speaking on the Bill Simmons podcast, White said that the UFC is now looking at Vettori for the next title shot. The reason that’s the case is becuase the UFC is hoping Adesanya returns on June 12 at UFC 263. Right now, that event is headlined by UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno, so another title fight taking place on the card could be beneficial for PPV sales.

To this date, this was the closest fight that the champ has had at 185lbs, and Vettori makes sure to let him know that on a daily basis. While it seems like Adesanya will be fighting Robert Whittaker next in another rematch, Vettori is still remaining optimistic that he will be the next man in line.

UFC women’s strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern has moved into the top-five of the division in the latest UFC rankings update. Dern defeated Nina Nunes via first-round submission at this past Saturday’s UFC Vegas 23 card. It was the most impressive performance of her career to date, and it improved her Octagon record to 6-1 overall. That was enough for Dern to move up significantly in the rankings. In the latest UFC rankings update, Dern moved up to No. 5 in the promotion at women’s 115lbs. In turn, Nunes dropped from No. 5 to No. 7, and Claudia Gadelha, Michelle Waterson, Tecia Torres, and Amanda Ribas all dropped a spot, as well.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 23, Marvin Vettori was looking to extend his winning streak against short-notice replacement, Kevin Holland. Vettori entered the fight coming off a dominant decision win over Jack Hermansson in December to put him in title contention. He was supposed to fight Darren Till, but after Till was forced out of the bout, Holland stepped up. Holland was coming off a disappointing loss to Derek Brunson just three weeks ago.

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 23 took place on Friday, and both Marvin Vettori and Kevin Holland made weight for the main event fight. In the headliner, Holland stepped up on one week’s notice to take on Vettori in a middleweight bout between two top-10 ranked fighters. Holland is just three weeks removed from a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Derek Brunson but he is getting another opportunity to take out a top-ranked fighter in the form of Vettori, who has won his last four fights in a row. Both of these guys are excellent middleweight fighters but Vettori has much more momentum coming into this fight. Both men made weight, with Vettori coming in at 186lbs and Holland stepping onto the scale at 183.5lbs.
