Griffin fought out his contract at UFC Vegas 86 against Jeremiah Wells and he earned a hard-fought split decision win. Going into the fight, Grifin knew there was pressure on him to get the victory, but he believed that same pressure would prove to be good motivation and make him perform at his best.

“I think it made me fight better and fight more composed. Jeremiah is a wild guy, he’s explosive and does a lot of shit. But, he tried to intimidate me, it was pretty emotional. I just had to shut all that down and do what we had to do,” Griffin said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com.

Going into the third round, Max Griffin thought the fight was 1-1, and after the final five minutes ‘Pain’ was confident he won the third round with ease. Although a history of decisions have not gone his way, Griffin admits that for whatever reason, he wasn’t nervous and was confident he would get his hand raised.

“I weirdly wasn’t nervous because during the fight his corner, they told him he had to win the third round. They were talking from a perspective of defeat, that they needed this one. They were telling him he needed to finish me in the third round and take it, and I felt the same way, but I felt like I was winning. It was close, but I landed the harder shots,” Griffin said.

Following the win, Max Griffin says he wants to re-sign ASAP and hopes he cam get a ranked opponent next.

“It takes about a week, just let them figure out their stuff. Man, I’m ready to fight in the UFC, the UFC is where it’s at, there are other shows in town but it isn’t comparable to the UFC,” Max Griffin concluded. “I want to finish here, but I want to get paid. I fought out my deal to give me a little more juice, but just give me some of these guys (in the top 15)… I want to re-sign and I want someone in the top 15, then top 10. Just fight, I want to fight, I’m not fighting as much as I want, I’m pretty healthy. I want to fight, re-sign me, let’s fight.”
