Joe Rogan explains why he ‘hates’ UFC 300’s Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje
Joe Rogan isn’t a huge fan of UFC 300’s ‘BMF’ title fight between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje.
Earlier this month, Dana White announced plans for ‘Blessed’ to face ‘The Highlight’ at the milestone event in April. While the fight card isn’t yet filled out, the lightweight contest will serve as one of the main bouts on UFC 300. For Max Holloway, the fight will be his first since a knockout win over The Korean Zombie last August.
Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje is coming off a second-round knockout win over Dustin Poirier in July. That bout saw ‘The Highlight’ avenge his previous loss to ‘The Diamond’, and also win the ceremonial title. In a few months, he will look to defend the ‘BMF’ championship, against Max Holloway.
On-papers, the fight is an excellent one. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone is a fan of it. Earlier this month, UFC commentator Joe Rogan previewed Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje on his podcast. There, the analyst admitted that he hated the fight. To be honest, he’s far from the only one. Earlier this month, the Hawaiian took aim at ‘naysayers’ of the contest, who have downplayed his chances on social media.
However, Joe Rogan seems to be somewhat aligned with those fans. He added that ‘Blessed’ struggled in his last lightweight bout, a 2019 decision loss to Dustin Poirier. Furthermore, the commentator doesn’t see why Max Holloway decided to fight Justin Gaethje, given his status at 145 pounds. In the eyes of Rogan, this bout could disrupt a future title shot at featherweight.
Joe Rogan explains why he ‘hates’ UFC 300 matchup Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje
“You know what I hate [about the fight],” Joe Rogan stated on a recent edition of his podcast, previewing the UFC 300 bout between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje. “Max is a great 45-pounder, Dustin Poirier beat him up at 55lbs. I think those guys are a little bit too big for him.” (h/t LowKick MMA)
He continued, “Also, Max is right there in the hunt for the title. [When] Volkanovski gets done with Topuria, Max is a likely next fight. It’s 100 percent there.”
While Joe Rogan isn’t a fan of Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje, the UFC 300 card is building very nicely. Beyond that ‘BMF’ title bout, there are other high-profile matchups, including Weili Zhang vs. Yan Xiaonan and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan.
Furthermore, Dana White recently announced the UFC debut of Kayla Harrison will go down in April. The former two-time PFL tournament winner will attempt to make the trip down to bantamweight to face former champion, Holly Holm. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ is coming off a no-contest with Mayra Bueno Silva last summer.
