Max Holloway makes a profound statement on social media to Jose Aldo
A new undisputed champion was crowned in Brazil over the weekend as Max Holloway continued his impressive winning streak, now riding 11 UFC wins in a row. It was no easy task as the young Hawaiian dethroned Jose Aldo in their UFC 212 featherweight title unification bout on Aldo’s home turf.
In the first round, Aldo showed off his speed and skills that made him the champion for so many years. In round two, Holloway started to find his rhythm and range making things more competitive between the two. The tables turned in round three as the Hawaiian connected with a combo that dropped Aldo and followed up with a relentless ground attack where referee “Big” John McCarthy eventually called an end to the fight.
With the decisive win, the “Blessed” era begun as Holloway was crowned the new king of the 145-pound division. However, Max was not one to disregard the accomplishments and history of Jose Aldo and released a statement on social media that everyone can respect.
Holloway said the following in his post:
Losing is part of this fight game. Saturday night takes nothing away from his legacy. This is a guy who would show up to his gym sometimes without eating in the last day because he was so damn poor. This is a guy who built the 45 division and became king. This is a guy who found motivation to keep earning what he already had. He defended his throne. For a decade. For honor. For his team. For his countrymen. This is a guy who didn’t start at pole position in this world and look at what he achieved. Brazil needs to celebrate that man. Acai with powered milk and cashews for everyone. He’s a GOAT, and his story will always be an inspiration to me and people of Hawaii. Obrigado, Ze @josealdojunioroficial Obrigado.
