UFC featherweight Brian Ortega made history tonight in Las Vegas by becoming the first fighter in history to finish UFC legend Frankie Edgar.

Ortega was able to catch Edgar with a standing elbow late in round one which had “The Answer” clearly rocked and on wobbly legs.

“T-City” would follow up with some punches and then a brutal uppercut which sent the former lightweight champion crashing to the canvas. From there, Ortega would land one final strike before the referee stepped in and called a stop to the action.

Many notable fighters, including Conor McGregor, chimed in on Brian Ortega’s historic win on social media following the contest.

Shortly after the conclusion of tonight’s UFC 222 event, current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway broke his silence by paying respect to Frankie Edgar while announcing his desire to defend his belt against Ortega at July’s UFC 226 event.

“You had nothing to gain from taking that fight @FrankieEdgar. But you took it you defended what you already earned. There’s no belt for sacrificing everything but true fans and Jersey knows no belt can outshine what you bring to the sport. Chin up bratha.” – Max Holloway

Brian Ortega is the clear top contender in the UFC’s featherweight division and will now receive a shot at current 145-pound kingpin Max Holloway.
