Alexander Volkanovski believes Max Holloway deserves rematch

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 245, Alexander Volkanovski swiped the UFC featherweight title from long-time champion Max Holloway. Post-fight, UFC President Dana White suggested he’d like to book a rematch between Volkanovski in Holloway, ideally in Volkanovski’s native Australia.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has given his thoughts on losing his belt to Alex Volkanovski in the co-main event of UFC 245. Holloway dropped a unanimous decision to Volkanovski with the judges scoring it 48-47, 48-47 and 50-45 in favor of the challenger. The loss snapped Holloway’s long winning streak in the UFC featherweight division, and we now have a new champion at 145lbs in Volkanovski.

UFC president Dana White says he wants to bring a UFC event to Hawaii and if he does so he wants UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway to fight on the card. White was in Honolulu, Hawaii this weekend for Trinity Sport Combat’s “Trinity Kings 8” event. In the main event of the card, former Contender Series fighter Alex Munoz defeated Troy Lamson. Munoz is a lightweight prospect from Team Alpha Male who most notably defeated Nick Newell on the Contender Series.

At UFC 223, Holloway was stepping up on short notice to take on the undefeated Dagestani lightweight champion. However, on fight week he was pulled by the New York State Athletic Commission. Then, at UFC 236, all he needed to do was beat Dustin Poirier to get the shot at Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately, he lost by decision.

The Daily Telegraph confirmed the fight between Holloway and Volkanovski for UFC 245, which takes place December 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Journalist Nick Walshaw tweeted the news. Journalist John Hyon Ko was the first to report news of the fight back in August, but now it’s confirmed.
