The first title defense of new UFC featherweight king Max Holloway could go down at UFC 218, this December 2 in Detroit, Michigan. According to our own Chris Taylor, a title fight pitting Holloway against former UFC lightweight champ and two-time featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar is in the works for the anticipated December card.

We last saw Max Holloway in the cage in June, in the main event of UFC 212, when he defeated once-dominant featherweight king Jose Aldo with a third-round TKO. With this title-winning TKO of Aldo, Holloway extended his win-streak to an incredible eleven straight. This streak includes impressive defeats of stars like Anthony Pettis, which earned him the UFC’s interim featherweight crown, Ricardo Lamas, Jeremy Stephens, Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson, Cole Miller, Akira Corassani, and Andre Fili. Holloway’s last loss occurred all the way back in 2013, when he was defeated by reigning lightweight champ and MMA megastar Conor McGregor. The Hawaiian champ is an applause-worthy 18-3 overall.
Frankie Edgar, meanwhile, is 22-5-1 in sum. In his last outing, which occurred at UFC 211 in May, he temporarily derailed the hype-train of red-hot Mexican contender Yair Rodriguez, pummeling the young fighter to a doctor stoppage. This win was preceded by a decisive beating of Jeremy Stephens at the blockbuster UFC 205 in November of 2016. Prior to these wins, Edgar came up short in his second bid to steal featherweight gold from Jose Aldo. His first shot at Aldo occurred in 2013.
At the moment, no fights have been confirmed for UFC 218, which will go down inside Detroit’s Little Caesar’s Arena. That said, Francis Ngannou recently called for a UFC 218 bout with heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic.
Stay tuned for more updates on UFC 218 as they emerge, including this still in-the-works featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.
