Michael Bisping baffled by criticism about UFC 300 card: “People are just criticizing for the sake of it”
UFC commentator Michael Bisping hopes that Saturday night’s announcement puts an end to a lot of online chatter.
At UFC 298 on Saturday night, fans got to see Ilia Topuria finally become the featherweight champion. ‘El Matador’ headlined a pay-per-view event, scoring a knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski in front of the likes of Michael Bisping. At the post-fight press conference, Dana White had big news.
That big news came in the form of the UFC 300 main event. In April, the historic milestone card will be headlined by Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill. ‘Poatan’ famously won the gold that ‘Sweet Dreams’ vacated in November, scoring a knockout win over Jiri Prochazka. With the announcement, White put an end to one of the company’s biggest ongoing issues.
For months now, the UFC has been scrambling to find a main event for the historic card. With Saturday’s announcement, commentator Michael Bisping couldn’t be happier. Speaking on the TNT Sports post-fight show, ‘The Count’ discussed the fight news. While Bisping is happy to see the fight, he’s aware that it won’t please everyone.
The retired British fighter aimed at online fans who have criticized the UFC 300 fight card in the post-fight show. While he personally would’ve liked fights such as Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall, he’s not shocked by the news. Furthermore, Michael Bisping believes that a lot of online criticism is just there because people love to criticize.

Former champion Michael Bisping reacts to UFC 300 main event announcement
“Fantastic news, brilliant fight. I just want to start with, thank god, cause can we stop going on about it now?” Michael Bisping stated on the TNT Sports UFC 298 post-fight show. “That’s all anyone’s talking about! ‘What will the UFC 300 main event be?’ Listen, I thought this was a strong contender from the get-go. Of course, [Michael] Chandler versus Conor [McGregor] would’ve been great. [Jon] Jones vs. Stipe [Miocic] or Tom Aspinall would’ve been phenomenal.”
He continued, “But, we knew that wasn’t happening. Jamahal Hill is the rightful number one contender, he relinquished the belt. Alex Pereira, come on, a two-division champ. Beaten former champions, rising through the ranks of the UFC, it’s phenomenal. The cherry on the top of this ridiculous fight card.”
“I don’t understand all this chatter online, people are just criticizing for the sake of it.” Michael Bisping concluded his thoughts on UFC 300. “Almost every single fight could be a main event, it’s a phenomenal event.”
Beyond Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill, UFC 300 is shaping up to be an excellent event. The nearly-completed card currently features other title fights, including Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan, and Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway. The card also features the promotional debut of former PFL tournament winner Kayla Harrison, who will face bantamweight contender Holly Holm.
