Nate Diaz has one of the most interesting personalities in MMA. The champ’s story sums up Diaz’s personality perfectly.

While news that Michael Bisping will next defend his UFC middleweight title against returning welterweight great Georges St-Pierre generated excitement among some members of the MMA community, it was an undeniable bummer for Yoel Romero. Romero, after all, is the top contender in the middleweight division, and St-Pierre’s surprising middleweight title shot deprives him of the shot he’s worked so hard to earn. Last night, however, the Cuban contender was given some cause for optimism, as Bisping suggested he was not willing to wait until the fall to fight St-Pierre, and that he is prepared to fight Romero in the meantime.
Luke Rockhold: Bisping vs. GSP fight is a joke
Tom Taylor - March 28, 2017
At a to-be-determined date later this year, former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return from a long hiatus to challenge Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title. Given that St-Pierre has never fought at middleweight before, his being given this opportunity over deserving middleweight contenders like Yoel Romero and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has generated ample criticism. The latest of this criticism comes from former champion Luke Rockhold. On UFC Tonight Rockhold suggested that, while a champion should be able to pick their challengers out of a small pool of top-5 foes, picking a challenger who’s never fought in the division before is a bit excessive. Vitor Belfort says "fake champion" Michael Bisping has been his "only easy fight"
Tom Taylor - March 27, 2017
Earlier this month, aging MMA legend Vitor Belfort was knocked senseless by a younger, faster, stronger fighter in Kelvin Gastelum. In the wake of this decisive loss, the declining legend explained that he would like to fulfill the last fight on his contract before retiring – ideally at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this June. Shortly thereafter, Belfort generated headlines by suggesting he’d like his retirement fight to be against former WWE star CM Punk – a welterweight with almost no martial arts experience, and a 0-1 professional MMA record. Unsurprisingly, this callout generated some negative responses from the MMA community – including one from notoriously outspoken middleweight champ Michael Bisping.

While this fight has got some members of the MMA community very excited, it’s generated criticism from others for the way it deprives the top middleweight contenders of the title shots they deserve. During a recent appearance on UFC Tonight, former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold offered his own criticism of this booking, suggesting that it could set a dangerous precedent, as legitimate ranking-driven matchmaking gives way to a focus on so-called “money fights”.

Earlier this month, MMA legend Vitor Belfort was mauled by a younger, faster, Kelvin Gastelum. Many fans took this beatdown as a sign that it was time for the aging legend to retire. Belfort himself, however, said he had one more in him. In his post-fight interview, he said he’d like to fulfil the last fight on his contract, ideally at UFC 112 in Rio de Janeiro in June. Belfort also acknowledged that a step down in competition would be nice, which is fair, but then threw the world a bit of a curve ball by calling out CM Punk – a former pro wrestler who was destroyed by Mickey Gall in his only mixed martial arts bout.

Yoel Romero now plans to wait for shot at Bisping-GSP winner
Tom Taylor - March 15, 2017
Yoel Romero has earned a shot at Michael Bisping’s UFC middleweight title – that’s pretty much undeniable at this point. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Romero weighed in on this bothersome situation, telling host Ariel Helwani that he’d be interested in an interim title fight with Anderson Silva as a way to stay busy while he waits for the Bisping vs. St-Pierre winner.

Tom Taylor - March 13, 2017
At a to-be-determined date later this year, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping will attempt to defend his title against former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. The bout will mark St-Pierre’s return to the cage after a multi-year hiatus, and as such, is one of the most anticipated events on the MMA calendar. As exciting as St-Pierre’s comeback fight with Bisping is, however, it’s also generated plenty of controversy, as his being granted an immediate middleweight title shot deprives many hard-working middleweight contenders of the shots they’ve earned.
Robert Whittaker not bothered by GSP-Bisping booking, offers prediction for the fight
Tom Taylor - March 12, 2017
When the UFC brass ironed out their differences with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, and pencilled him in for an immediate middleweight title shot against divisional king Michael Bisping, their hope was clearly for a positive reception. Unfortunately for them, this booking has been met with plenty in the way of backlash, as its been criticized by fighters like Yoel Romero and Kelvin Gastelum, MMA personalities like Joe Rogan, and of course, the sport’s ever-passionate fans. Not everyone, however, is bent out of shape over this booking. Streaking middleweight contender Robert Whittaker, for example, has adopted a laissez faire outlook on the whole ordeal. In a recent interview with BJPenn.com’s Tom Taylor, Whittaker explained that he’s not particularly bothered by the booking, and that he hopes it produces the massive payday both Bisping and St-Pierre are looking for. He even admitted that he’s excited to watch the fight.
Kelvin Gastelum criticizes GSP's middleweight title shot: what’s the point of having rankings?
Tom Taylor - March 12, 2017
At a to-be-determined date later this year, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return from a hiatus of several years to a shot at middleweight champion Michael Bisping. While news of this St-Pierre comeback was exciting for many fans, however, it was a bit of a buzzkill for the many hard-working contenders in the middleweight division – contenders like Kelvin Gastelum, who surged into title contention with a first-round knockout of Vitor Belfort in Brazil last night. Shortly after his defeat of Belfort, Gastelum weighed in on St-Pierre’s line-jumping middleweight title fight, expressing his opinion that it tarnishes the legitimacy of divisional rankings and contendership.
