After Poirier scored a second-round TKO over McGregor at UFC 257, many assumed he would be fighting for the lightweight title next. Yet, he passed over the title shot to fight McGregor again leaving Chandler to face Charles Oliveira in May.

Chandler and Oliveira meet in the main event of UFC 262 with the vacant UFC lightweight title on the line. Coming off of a brutal KO win over Dan Hooker in his promotional debut at UFC 257, Chandler earned himself the opportunity to fight Oliveira, the UFC’s all-time greatest submission artist who has improved his standup in recent years. It’s a fascinating matchup between two of the best lightweights in the world, but if you ask Chandler, he’s the one who is going to go out there and impose his will.

The news broke overnight that Diaz will be returning to the Octagon in order to face Edwards in what could, essentially, be a No. 1 contender fight. After dominant champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s official retirement and relinquishing of the title, it led the promotion to make these top two lightweights fight for the vacant crown – something that doesn’t sit all too well with Worthy.

After Dana White confirmed Khabib Nurmagomedov was retired, the promotion was quick to book Oliveira vs. Chandler for the lightweight title. In the fight, ‘Do Bronx’ doesn’t expect Chandler to take him down, nor does he plan to back down as Dan Hooker did in Chandler’s debut.

The upcoming UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler pay-per-view on May 15 will take place in front of a full crowd of fans in Houston, Texas. The UFC made the fight card official on Friday afternoon, officially confirming the Oliveira vs. Chandler main event for the vacant UFC lightweight title, as well as announcing that it will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston with fans in attendance. The tickets will go on sale on April 2. This is the UFC’s second fight card announced in the past week that will feature a full crowd of fans. The other is UFC 261, on April 24 in Jacksonville, Florida.

The opening betting odds have been released for the upcoming vacant UFC lightweight title bout between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira. The UFC officially announced this week that Chandler and Oliveira will meet in the main event of UFC 262 on May 15, with the vacant UFC lightweight belt up for grabs. That became possible once former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmaomedov officially retired. With Chandler vs. Oliveira now official, the sportsbooks have released the opening odds for the fight. Perhaps the most notable of the bunch being UFC President Dana White conceding defeat to Nurmagomedov insisting on calling it a career at 29-0 after a meeting in Las Vegas.

Michael Chandler has a sneaky suspicion that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will retire with a record of “29-and-Chandler.” Chandler is one of the top lightweights in the world who is currently vying for a chance to win the UFC’s 155lbs belt, one that is currently held by Nurmagomedov. However, the Russian has said for the last six months now that he is planning on hanging up his gloves. That hasn’t stopped UFC president Dana White from trying his best to convince Nurmagomedov to fight again, but so far we haven’t heard one way or another his plans.

Michael Chandler has offered his support to Dan Hooker. Hooker recently posted on social media that he is back in New Zealand but in quarantine. He shared a photo of him behind the fence with his wife and daughter looking at him. It was a sad photo and what made it worse is the fact he still has another 12 days to go in quarantine, despite already being away from his family for 44 days.

Since then, Chandler has been angling for a fight with Poirier, but Poirier has expressed disinterest in the matchup.
