Michael Page lays out path to potential UFC title shot: “I’m here to get the bling”

UFC welterweight Michael Page believes he only needs two wins to get a title shot.

The man known to many fans simply as ‘MVP’ is set to make his UFC debut this Saturday night. Michael Page hasn’t competed in nearly a year, last defeating Goiti Yamaguchi in the Bellator cage last March. That was his last fight on his deal with the Scott Coker-led promotion, and he became a free agent afterward.

When looking at where to sign, there were a lot of factors weighing on Michael Page’s mind. The former Bellator title challenger hadn’t competed outside the company in a decade. However, it was the allure of the UFC, and becoming a world champion, that made him sign with Dana White‘s promotion.

That’s exactly what Michael Page stated at UFC 299 earlier today. At the press scrum, the welterweight contender was asked about his fight with Kevin Holland, slated for Saturday. There, Page stated that he planned to score a spectacular knockout win, his first on the way to becoming world champion.

The former Bellator contender stated that he didn’t come to the UFC just for money or fame. No, the 36-year-old wants to become world champion. Page also doesn’t believe that it will take very long for him to do so, either.

Michael Page opens up on potential title shot ahead of UFC 299 debut

“I don’t do things just to make up numbers.” Michael Page stated at the UFC 299 press scrum earlier today when asked about his intentions to join the company. “So we’re here for the belt, I’m here to get the bling. So, getting to the top is key, which is why I’m starting with someone the likes of Kevin Holland. It has to be that type of challenge, I don’t have time to build myself up.”

He continued, “I don’t need to need to [build myself up]. That was a conversation I had with the UFC, and they were equally in agreement with that. I think they’ve shown their intentions by giving me Kevin Holland first.”

Michael Page continued and was asked how many fights it would take for him to earn a UFC title shot. He responded:

“A big entertaining knockout, and maybe another spectacular knockout. Then the belt.”
