UFC welterweight contender Michael Page nearly had a much different entrance on Saturday.

Over the weekend, the man known simply as ‘Venom’ finally debuted in the UFC. The longtime Bellator star faced Kevin Holland, in what promised to be a striker’s delight. However, Michael Page wound up dominating ‘Trailblazer’ on the feet. The newly-signed welterweight ultimately handed Holland a unanimous decision defeat.

For Michael Page, the result was the end of what was a wild and interesting UFC 299 fight week. During the week, the welterweight was teasing a special, never-before-seen entrance. Given Page’s flashy style, that comes as no surprise. Ultimately, the former Bellator star walked to the cage with WWE legend, The Undertaker’s song playing.

However, that’s not what Michael Page originally wanted. On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the welterweight contender opened up on his plans for the walkout. According to Page, the UFC shot down his original plans, which involved his brother. The idea was for the welterweight’s song to start playing, and it would flash to himself in the cage.

The Undertaker’s gong would hit, as it does in the song, and he would re-appear up at the tunnel, and do his walkout from there. According to Michael Page, his brother would’ve served in the original spot in the cage, but the UFC shot the idea down. Furthermore, he had to lobby just to get to use the song itself.

“Yeah, I had a big plan.” Michael Page laughed on The MMA Hour earlier today. “I have such a creative mind and I just can’t turn that side of me off. When I envision the fight day, it’s not just my opponent and how I’m going to beat my opponent… It’s from the walkout, to how I leave. So, I had an idea, me and my family got together and talked about it. We’ve got the track made, and we were going over it.”

He continued, “I presented it to the UFC and they took their time, and they took a little bit of time getting back to me. It was like ‘We can’t do that’, and actually said no to the track as well initially. We kept on pushing back, and managed to get the track cleared. Which was great… For me, it still worked out and I still really enjoyed the walkout. Genuinely, if I was able to do what I wanted to do, it would’ve been the best walkout anybody’s seen in UFC.”

“… The spotlight was going to go on the cage, and I was going to be in the cage.” Michael Page concluded. “… The lights were going to cut back on, and I was going to be in the same position up at the tunnel… My brother was going to be the one in the cage, he was going to have the hood up. Anytime I lose weight, we look so similar as well.”
