UFC strawweight Michelle Waterson lost for the first time in the UFC over the weekend.
Waterson met Rose Namajunas at UFC on FOX 24 and was submitted in the second round by a rear-naked choke locked on by Namajunas.
Following the fight, Waterson took to social media where she addressed her loss and gave some insight as to where he head was at.
“Couple of bumps and bruises but I’m healthy,” Waterson said in her post. “A sleepless night trying to breakdown my fight. I know it was the little things that cost me, and at this level it is the little things that count. The reason I love to fight is because it keeps me honest with myself. I know what I am capable of… Time to get back to work. Thank you everybody who supports me throughout my journey.”
On Monday, Waterson posted another photo sporting two black eyes on her flight back home and said, “This is how we feel about losing… But time stops for nobody so we brush our shoulders off and push forward!”
Waterson is now 14-5 overall with going 2-1 in the UFC and will be looking to bounce back from the loss when she steps back into the Octagon.
Namajunas holds a 6-3 overall record, going 4-2 in the UFC and will surely be looking to fight another top contender but surely will not pass up chance to fight for the women’s UFC strawweight title if offered to her next.
Namajunas stated in the post-fight press conference that she has a goal of fighting for the title at some point in 2017. UFC President Dana White said he was impressed by her performance against Waterson and said that he thinks Rose is ready for a title shot.
