VIDEO | Flashback Friday: Watch Mickey Gall in a No Gi Grappling Match
Back in 2014, during the pay-per-view portion of UFC 181, it was announced that WWE superstar CM Punk would be making the jump to MMA as a member of the UFC roster. And though it was immediately made clear that Punk had no real martial arts experience, we were led to believe that spent at least some time practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If he did have any one strength then, it would appear to be in the grappling department.
Unfortunately, Punk’s upcoming opponent, Mickey Gall, is exponentially more experienced on the mat than he is. In the video above, you can watch Gall go the distance with Gordon Ryan at the at the 2015 NAGA World Championship. Considering Ryan just tapped BJJ superstar Keenan Cornelius with an inside heel hook, Gall hanging in there with him for the duration of their match is a real feat.
The point here, is that CM Punk is probably in for a tough night when he fights Gall on the main card of UFC 203 next Saturday. Not only is Gall an amply more polished striker, but he’s also the vastly superior man on the mat. Yes, Punk’s path to victory grows ever narrower.
How do you think CM Punk will fair against Mickey Gall next Saturday? Sound off, PENN Nation?
