Miesha Tate Demonstrates Heroism Outside the Cage

It’s no secret that Miesha Tate is one hell of a fighter. She has, after all, won titles in both Strikeforce and the UFC. Yet Tate is also one of the sport’s kindest competitors–something she reminded the world of this weekend when she aided some struggling strangers while out on a hike in Nevada’s Mary Jane Falls. During her trek, Tate came across a mother who was struggling to carry her injured daughter back down the mountain. As Tate explained in a Sunday night post to her Facebook page, she then carried the girl down the mountain for the mother, keeping her spirits up with conversation as she did.

Miesha Tate suffered a devastating loss at UFC 200, losing the women’s bantamweight belt in her first title defense to Amanda Nunes. Nunes caught Tate early on with some clean strikes that had Tate on the defense trying her best to recover. Nunes ultimately got Tate in a rear-naked choke and tapped “Cupcake” at 3:16 of the first round.

Miesha Tate lost her UFC women’s bantamweight title to Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 200 last night in Las Vegas. Nunes was able to batter Tate in the stand-up game before eventually taking her down and scoring the fight-ending rear-naked choke submission in the bouts opening round.

At UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil, Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg made her highly anticipated UFC debut against Leslie Smith. The fight was a short one, with Cyborg getting the TKO win over Smith in the 1st round. Following the win, Cyborg expressed her interest in going back to Invicta to defend her featherweight championship. Despite that, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate eyes a future fight with Cyborg.

After nearly a decade as a professional fighter, Miesha Tate captured UFC gold after choking Holly Holm unconscious in the co-main event of UFC 196 on March 5th. Following the fight, many began calling for a trilogy fight with Ronda Rousey, who was on an indefinite hiatus after being brutally knocked out by Holly Holm in November. While Tate may be down to scrap with Rousey a third time, Rousey has yet to announce her plans to return to the Octagon. The former champ is currently filming movies in Hollywood, and while UFC President Dana White has stated that Rousey will fight in November, Tate isn’t so sure. In addition, Tate pointed out that she doesn’t want to overlook her UFC 200 opponent, Amanda Nunes. She spoke on Conan on TBS:

While the UFC took the brunt of the blowback for Conor McGregor refusing to fulfill his media obligations for UFC 200, the promotion wasn’t the only one affected by McGregor’s standoff with the UFC. Co-headliner Miesha Tate, who will look to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight championship against Amanda Nunes in the co-main event, had to step in on short notice to film an extra promo segment after McGregor refused to show up. She explained on her podcast that her, Jose Aldo, and Frankie Edgar were all slated to film promo segments for UFC 200. When Conor McGregor no-showed, the production team begged Tate to return later in the day and miss a training session in order to film an extra promo. Tate agreed, and ultimately ended up missing a practice session as a result of the filming.
