By this point, most fight fans know that UFC commentator Joe Rogan is not a man to be trifled with. As a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, and a a pretty striker too, Rogan is not just a good analyst but damn good martial artist. And as it turns out, Rogan’s efforts in the gym have rubbed off on his long-time broadcast partner Mike Goldberg.

Late last year, long-time UFC play-by-play man Mike Goldberg was released by the promotion with little in the way of sendoff or fanfare. He simply called UFC 207, put down his commentator’s headset, and that was that. His long run with the promotion was over. After months of rumors, we learned yesterday that the beloved commentator had found a new home. Goldberg has signed a deal with Bellator MMA – the sport’s second biggest promotion. He will debut behind the Bellator commentary desk during Bellator 180 and Bellator NYC, which compose arguably the biggest event the promotion has ever hosted.

Scott Coker: We're trying to see if we can fit Mike Goldberg into Bellator broadcast team

If you watched UFC 208 earlier this month, the broadcast probably sounded much different than you’re used to. That, of course, is because long time UFC play-by-play man Mike Goldberg was not a part of the broadcast team. Instead, the broadcast booth was filled by a three-man team of Joe Rogan, Jon Anik, and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. Golberg was released by the UFC in late 2016. His last broadcast as a UFC employee was December’s UFC 207, after which he was sent packing with precisely zero thanks from the UFC, or acknowledgement for the decades of hard work he put in for the company.

Russell Ess - February 13, 2017
“It is all over!” You have heard the phrase time and time again from former UFC commentator Mike Goldberg. However, the term doesn’t seem to be applying to Goldberg’s career as the longtime voice calling the fights along with Joe Rogan dropped a hint that we will be seeing him “soon.”

With Mike Goldberg no longer a part of the UFC commentating team, Joe Rogan will have some different company for the UFC 208 pay-per-view event taking place on February 11, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Goldberg commentated his last UFC event with Rogan at UFC 207 in December where Amanda Nunes beat Ronda Rousey in their UFC women’s bantamweight title fight main event.

Shortly after the UFC was purchased by entertainment giant WME-IMG midway through 2016, a string of high-profile layoffs began. The most significant of these layoffs occurred at the end of the year, when we learned that long-time UFC commentator Mike Goldberg would be parting ways with the organization after UFC 207 on December 30. On the most recent episode of The MMA Hour, Goldberg opened up on his departure from the UFC, which was not even mentioned during his final broadcast. Unsurprisingly, he said the news that his contract would not be released was not easy to to take.

Mike Goldberg was in attendance for UFC Fight Night 103 on Sunday night but it wasn’t cageside commentating for the fights. With having his last UFC commentating gig at UFC 207 in December, Goldberg is on to the next chapter in his life but surely isn’t just walking away from the sport of mixed martial arts.

Prior to UFC 207, it was reported that longtime UFC commentator Mike Goldberg would be calling his last UFC event at the highly anticipated event. Throughout the course of the broadcast, there was no mention of the event being Goldberg’s last. Throughout the course of the event however, members of the MMA community continued to Tweet Goldberg, thanking him for the years he dedicated to calling fights over the course of his career. With that being said however, Goldberg’s son took to Twitter immediately following the event to express his dissatisfaction with the promotion for not acknowledging the event as Goldberg’s last:

bjpenndotcom - December 28, 2016
After a period of speculation following reports that the UFC was looking to replace the ‘hype master’ style of commentary delivered by Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan, reports are now surfacing that longtime UFC commentator Mike Goldberg will be making his last broadcasting appearance with the UFC this Friday at UFC 207. UFC President Dana White recently stated that he was working on assembling what he believes to be the ‘dream team’ of commentary. While White didn’t mention who he was looking to have on board, he did praise Joe Rogan as the best commentator in the business, leading many fans to believe that Rogan would be staying on board. While there has been no further word on the matter since then, SB Nation’s Luke Thomas confirmed news this week that UFC 207 would indeed be Goldberg’s last appearance:
