EXCLUSIVE | Mike Perry predicts outcome of potential fight with Conor McGregor
‘Platinum’ Mike Perry has quickly become one of the most popular fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division. While Perry has only fought in the Octagon twice, it’s not uncommon to see MMA fans on social media discussing Perry, as well as his upcoming fight with Alan Jouban, where Perry hopes to make it 3-straight wins in the Octagon.
In his UFC debut, Perry stirred quite a bit of controversy when he faked a handshake Hyun Gyu Lim’s hand at weigh-ins. When Lim extended his hand to shake Perry’s, ‘Platinum’ was quick to pull his hand back and yell “Sike! You thought!” Despite that, Perry went out and left fight fans stunned as he picked up an impressive 1st round KO win.
In his most recent Octagon appearance, Perry stepped into the Octagon on the UFC Fight Pass prelims of UFC 204 to square off with Danny Robert. With the fight nearly even at one round each on many fan’s scorecards, Perry picked up a third round TKO win to keep his unbeaten streak in tact.
Now, on the heels of Conor McGregor’s UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez earlier this month, ahead of his UFC on FOX 22 scrap with Alan Jouban on December 17th, Perry joined BJPenn.com’s Rapid Fire to discuss his thoughts on how a potential fight between he and Conor McGregor would play out:
“I would fight him how he fights. I would press forward and make him take a step back. And when he started to counter me, I would counter him. Then I would just mush him up against the wall and beat him up and finish the fight. I am to much for him. To powerful and as fast as he is, it would not stop me from doing whatever I wanted to him.”
While McGregor is currently the champion at both featherweight and lightweight, Perry currently fights at welterweight, where McGregor could potentially find himself if he chooses to pursue a fight with welterweight champ Tyron Woodley. Perry spoke about McGregor’s chances against Tyron Woodley, saying:
“I mean he beat Nate Diaz at welterweight in the second fight. So yea I guess he could have some success. But it depends on who he is fighting as well. I do not think he could beat Woodley. Woodley is very explosive. I just do not think Conor can win that. I know he cannot beat me. But I am sure he could have some success. Maybe he will come up again. Who knows. He is good at talking and causing drama. Man I would just love to fight the guy.”
