Nate Diaz hints he’s “back in action” in new training post
It’s now been well over a year since Nate Diaz’s last fight, an August 2016 decision loss to current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. If you’re willing to read into his latest Instagram post, however, there seems to be some reason to believe he’ll be back in the cage someday soon.
“Back in action,” Diaz said in the caption for this training post.
This, of course, is far from confirmation that Diaz will fight again. Whatever the case, he’s clearly staying in shape, which at the very least suggests he’s not closing the door on a return to the Octagon.
That said, Diaz has recently eluded many times that he’s keen on trying his hand at boxing – just like McGregor did recently. According to Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Bob Bennett, he’d have no problem getting a license.
“I don’t think he’s requested a boxing licence, to date,” Bennett recently told Express Sport. “But from what I know of Nate and who he spars with, I believe he may have been a sparring partner at some point in time with Andre Ward, he and Nick [Diaz].”
While there is definitely reason to believe that Nate Diaz will compete in combat sports again in the future, UFC President Dana White is not optimistic.
“Nate Diaz has turned down a fight with everyone on the roster,” White recently told Adam Hill. “We’ve been offering him fights for a year and a half.”
