Nate Diaz details injury prior to Jake Paul boxing match: “You’ve got to go regardless”
Nate Diaz has revealed he entered his boxing match against Jake Paul with an injury.
Diaz and Paul shared the ring for a 10-round cruiserweight fight. Paul was hoping to rebound from the first loss of his pro boxing career. Earlier this year, Paul was beaten by Tommy Fury via split decision.
Diaz’s efforts against Paul have earned him praise. The Stockton native had his share of issues dealing with Jake Paul’s punching power and boxing experience. Nate Diaz was even knocked down in the fifth round, but he survived and continued fighting until the final bell. In the end, this was a unanimous decision win for Paul.
Nate Diaz Reveals Injury
Diaz spoke to reporters during the post-fight press conference. The former UFC title challenger claimed that he suffered a right arm injury before sharing the ring with Jake Paul (h/t MMAJunkie)
“I’m not trying to make excuses, but about a month back I was trying to stay big and I hurt my arm a little bit,” Diaz said. “It was wearing and tearing on my right arm if I was jabbing or doing stuff. … I think I should’ve kept on the outside and do more stuff. It’s all good. There’s no way I’m not going to show up for a fight for something like that, too. You’ve got to go regardless. No matter what.”
Nate Diaz has expressed interest in fighting Paul again. The Stockton native has said he’d be fine with either an MMA bout or another boxing match. Paul has offered Diaz an MMA fight if it’s under the PFL banner. Diaz has said that if the PFL is going to be involved, then the event has to be cross-promotion. Diaz has been getting his Real Fight Inc. promotion off the ground, and he’s trying to give it the attention it needs to take off.
