Sitting out did nothing for Nate Diaz, and it could do even less for Jorge Masvidal

Jordy McElroy - July 23, 2019

Jorge Masvidal’s knee heard round the world against Ben Askren at UFC 239 set a record for the fastest knockout in promotional history. It also ripped a hole in the fabric of time and space, sending the UFC nearly three years back into the past, where Nate Diaz—another supremely talented and outspoken superstar—stood on the same morals as Masvidal, refusing to accept anything less than another big-ticket fight. There aren’t enough Advil on the planet capable of alleviating the massive headache that ghastly trip down memory lane would cause UFC President Dana White.

No trilogy, homie? Why Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz would be better off going their separate ways

Jordy McElroy - June 26, 2019

The spontaneity of the explosive rivalry between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz sprung to life over three years ago and created pay-per-view gold. There’s still a trilogy left to be mined out of the bowels of the UFC’s matchmaking grotto, but the attempt to do so now could result in a watered-down version of the original blockbuster—a quick cash-grab pairing of two marquee names. If there is no organic route to a rubber match, then perhaps it’s time McGregor and Diaz go their separate ways.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Kavanagh spoke about his preference wanting Diaz as McGregor’s next opponent, saying it’s something he’s wanted for a while.

While these are the only fights Diaz has accepted in that time, UFC President Dana White has previously claimed that he’s offered the younger Diaz brother plenty of other matchups in that stretch. If that’s accurate, we can safely say that Diaz has a very high standard for the fights he accepts.
