Nick Diaz disappointed with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205
MMA icon Nick Diaz is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. From topics such as fighter pay, to matchmaking, Diaz frequently speaks out on matters where he feels he needs to.
Earlier this month, at the UFC’s historic inaugural Madison Square Garden event, UFC 205, Conor McGregor made UFC history as he became the first man to simultaneous hold titles in two weight classes as he TKOd Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their highly anticipated scrap.
In his previous two fights however, McGregor fought Nick’s younger brother, TUF season 5 winner, and top ranked UFC lightweight Nate Diaz. Nate stepped into the Octagon with McGregor for the first time on short notice at UFC 196, where he was filling in for Rafael dos Anjos on just two weeks notice. When Diaz stepped in to fight McGregor at UFC 196, the pair fought at welterweight, where Diaz picked up a 2nd round submission win as he rocked McGregor, and then secured a rear naked choke after McGregor shot for a takedown.
In the pair’s second meeting, McGregor implemented a rather efficient gameplan, and ultimately won a 5-round majority decision, avenging the sole loss of his UFC career.
On the heels of McGregor’s win over Eddie Alvarez, Nick Diaz spoke on The Jasta Show to discuss his feelings on the fight:
“I have nothing against Alvarez, I actually like Alvarez. He started popping off (about Nate) but I don’t care. Just in general, I’m just disappointed in him for that fight. I want to feel sorry for him, I don’t want to disrespect Eddie Alvarez, I don’t. What I’m saying is, he invested a lot of time and energy elsewhere. In the time leading up to that fight, I think McGregor put a lot more time and understanding in to it. Eddie Alvarez kinda just thinks he’s the winner, and he believed that. McGregor knows why he is the winner. I have to base my faith on stuff I know, things I see, not just by pumping myself up. I know what I’m looking at. A lot of other people don’t have the time of day to do that, and have a whole life on the side. I think that’s what he’s got, these guys are like waist deep.”
“I will beat you down in to the ground in front of your whole life that I don’t get to have. I don’t have that! It’s not a good thing, it’s not a bad thing. It’s not the end of the world. It’s a curse. It’s fucked. If I do it right, I can fucking make some money!”
