Demetrious Johnson believes ONE rule set is superior

Former ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has competed worldwide for numerous promotions. And after all his experiences, he believes that ONE Championship’s rule set is superior.

Johnson expressed his admiration for the ONE rule set during a recent episode of MightyCast with ONE Championship Vice President Rich Franklin.

Specifically, Johnson highlighted how the allowance of strikes to a grounded opponent enhances both the fight and the viewing experience. He experienced this at “ONE on TNT I” in April 2021.

“I love knees to the head on the ground. It makes the fight progress. I’ve had fights in the UFC where they play that grounded opponent game and I kneed my opponent in the head and the fight was stopped,” Johnson said.

“You see in ONE Championship, they allow knees to the grounded opponent and it forces the fight to keep on going. If I shoot for a takedown and you knee me in the head, I’m forced to move. I can’t stay there. It’s better. I got kneed in the head by Adriano Moraes, it works.”

Rich Franklin reveals ONE Championship’s plans for 2025

ONE Championship is already gearing up for what promises to be the biggest year in its history in 2025.

During a conversation with Demetrious Johnson, ONE Vice President Rich Franklin discussed the organization’s exciting plans for the upcoming year.

“We’re filming Russell Crowe’s The Beast In Me film at ONE 170 in January, which will be really interesting to see how that gets done during a live event,” Franklin said.

“We also have two shows on-ground in the U.S. next year, which is the labor of some of my work. And we’ll have more news about ONE 171: Qatar. We also have huge fights in Rodtang versus Takeru, and I’m interested in watching a rematch between Anatoly [Malykhin] versus Reug Reug [Oumar Kane] in the Circle instead of a ring.”
