Denice Zamboanga, Alyona Rassohnya set for Interim Atomweight World Title fight
ONE Championship is kicking off 2025 with a double main event on Friday, January 10, at ONE Fight Night 27: Tang vs. Abdullaev.
There, ONE Featherweight MMA World Champion Tang Kai defends his crown against Akbar Abdullaev in the headline attraction. But the co-main event sees #2-ranked Denice Zamboanga and #4-ranked Alyona Rassohnya vie for the ONE Interim Atomweight MMA World Title inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Zamboanga is one of the best female atomweights in the world today. And she looks to secure her long-awaited dance with reigning queen Stamp Fairtex.
“The Menace” is riding a three-fight winning streak into this bout. She’s outdone Lin Heqin, Julie Mezabarba, and Noelle Grandjean to keep her spot in the divisional rankings.
But while the Filipina looks to secure the ONE Interim World Title, Rassohnya is looking to do just the same and settle a trilogy with Stamp.
The Ukranian smasher shocked the world when she submitted the Thai superstar in 2021 at ONE: UNBREAKABLE III. But when the pair rematched later that year, Stamp managed to pull one back after besting the 34-year-old across three rounds.
With the scores tied at one win apiece, Rassohnya has all the motivation necessary to try and beat one of the division’s best in Zamboanga. If she does, she would punch her ticket to a historic trilogy with the greatest prize in atomweight MMA on the line.
For Denice Zamboanga, patience has been a virtue
There’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that Denice Zamboanga has the goods to become a ONE World Champion. But in recent times, fortune has not favored her.
“The Menace” was set to collide with former ONE Atomweight MMA World Champion Angela Lee, but the latter then took a hiatus to focus on motherhood.
Zamboanga was then supposed to face three-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex.
In one circumstance, though, Zamboanga suffered a hamstring injury, forcing her to withdraw. More recently, Stamp suffered a knee injury at the start of the summer that put the rematch on ice once again.
So, with Stamp looking to return in 2025, Zamboanga could finally face the Fairtex Training Center standout by winning the interim crown at ONE Fight Night 27.
