Eddie Abasolo fired up for ONE Fight Night 19 bout against Luke Lessei
Eddie Abasolo knows he has a point to prove in his next outing.
The proud California native locks horns with Iowa’s Luke Lessei in a featherweight Muay Thai bout at ONE Fight Night 19 on Prime Video. It airs live in U.S. primetime from the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, this Friday, February 16.
“Silky Smooth” has had his eyes on Lessei for quite some time. In fact, he anticipated the inevitable collision in the ring.
“Years ago, after watching Luke and a couple of his fights, I knew I was going to fight him sometime down the road. You know what I mean? And it’s here, so I’m just excited about that,” Abasolo said.
“It’s definitely a fight that not just the U.S., but the world, is going to remember.”
Both men are coming off mesmerizing performances in their recent assignments. They both showcased their mettle against elite opponents.
This past December, Lessei engaged in a jaw-dropping battle against current #3-ranked contender “Smokin’” Jo Nattawut. The clash resembled a Fight of the Year candidate in 2023.
On the other hand, Abasolo put forth a gallant stand in his three-round war versus #2-ranked contender Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong eight months ago.
Despite the stylistic similarities and the shared experience, Abasolo is approaching the clash opposite Lessei with a clean-slate mentality.
The 37-year-old recognizes the importance of focusing on the present and the unique challenges that “The Chef” presents.
“I feel like going into this fight, it’s just another fight. You know, it’s not a rebound off of our last fight for me personally. I can only speak for myself. I can’t speak for him, but I feel like this fight is different,” he said.
“Because we’re both two dudes from the U.S. who do what we do very well. We just so happen to be in the same weight class, so it’s just a matter of seeing who’s the smoothest,” he said.
Eddie Abasolo looks to go with the flow
Eddie Abasolo is hesitant to make a bold prediction for his upcoming matchup with Luke Lessei at ONE Fight Night 19 on Prime Video.
Understanding the unpredictability of Muay Thai, he is diligently preparing for all scenarios.
“Basically, anywhere that it goes, I’ll be ready to go there. Regardless if it’s fast-paced. Regardless if it’s slow-paced. If we really go for it, I’m going to be game,” he said.
