It’s no exaggeration to say that ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Champion Kade Ruotolo had a phenomenal 2024.

The grappling prodigy-turned-MMA star defied expectations, cementing himself as a two-sport superstar. Let’s dive into Ruotolo’s top three performances of the year.

Ruotolo kicked off the year in January with a decisive victory over Tommy Langaker at ONE 165, defending his ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Title for the second time. However, this was just the beginning.

Three months later at ONE Fight Night 21 he submitted Brazilian standout Fransisco Lo in under five minutes with a clinical rear-naked choke. This victory marked Ruotolo’s sixth consecutive win in ONE Championship and his second by stoppage, setting the stage for a new chapter in his career.

In June, at ONE 167, Ruotolo made his highly anticipated debut in the lightweight MMA division. Donning 4-ounce gloves for the first time, he delivered an emphatic performance against Blake Cooper. Combining striking with his world-class grappling, Ruotolo dominated his opponent, securing a rear-naked choke at the 3:20 mark of the first round. This bout showcased his versatility and hinted at his potential to excel in MMA.

Kade Ruotolo displayed new depth at ONE 169

Kade Ruotolo’s remarkable ascent in 2024 reached new heights at ONE 169 this past November.

The American phenom faced the unorthodox Ahmed Mujtaba and demonstrated his evolving skill set. Ruotolo opened the bout with a thunderous overhand right that rocked the Pakistani star. Without hesitation, he unleashed a barrage of punches before locking in a beautifully executed D’arce choke. In just 64 seconds, the match was over.

This electrifying finish marked Ruotolo’s second stoppage win in as many MMA bouts. It also underscored his potential as a future force in the lightweight MMA division. At just 21 years old, Ruotolo continues to evolve as a combat sports athlete. If he remains fit and injury-free, fans should expect to see him break into the upper echelon of the lightweight MMA division in 2025.
